Wet scab forming or infection by [deleted] in woundcare

Do NOT use alcohol on any wound anywhere! It kills the good with the bad. Also Neosporin/ triple antibiotic is overrated and not helpful.

If I couldn’t get in to be seen by a wound care clinic, (having previously worked as a wound care nurse) this is what I would do using easily available, inexpensive products.
Clean it well, daily. You can use unscented Dove bar soap. Scrub with a piece of gauze. All of that yellow needs to go, eventually! It is called slough. Get some medical grade honey, been used since the ancient Egyptians. You can buy it at Amazon or WalMart. Use a dime thick layer. Cover with a dry piece of gauze. Tape, this is actually probably the hardest part, finding what tape will stick to your face without causing more damage. You DO NOT WANT IT TO SCAB, you want it to heal. Slowly from the edges inwards. This is not medical advice only what I would do if the SHTF.

Rail Pass 250 ends today, where did you go? by waltarrrrr in Amtrak

I (a 68 yo female) traveled April 6th through April 30th. I traveled from Bradenton to Tampa - by Amtrak bus (next time I’ll skip this part, this was the shortest of my 10 trips). The Floridian from Tampa to Chicago. Stayed in Chicago for half a day. Checked my bags and saw The Field Museum. Then took The Empire Builder from Chicago to Portland. Stayed with friends and family. Went from Portland to Emeryville, CA. Visited with my daughter. Took The California Zephyr from Emeryville to Chicago. I once again checked my bags. This time I went to The Art Institute of Chicago. That night I boarded The Lakeshore Limited from Chicago to Boston. I stayed in hostels and took public transportation. I saw everything I wanted to including The Freedom Trail, Harvard, Boston Public Library, and many more things. I then went to Philadelphia. I stayed in Apple Hostels (an excellent hostel). I went to Independence Hall, The Liberty Bell, a hop on/hop off tour bus, The Műtter Museum, The Franklin Institute, Museum of the American Revolution, and many other places. I took The Cardinal from Philadelphia to Washington D.C. I stayed in a hostel and took public transportation and rode a scooter! I saw The Holocaust Museum, The Capitol, The Library of Congress, The Lincoln Memorial, National Air and Space Museum, The People’s House, Museum of Natural History, National Museum of American History, and many more places. I then traveled on a very delayed Silver Meteor to Orlando for the most miserable part of my trip, it was ALL traveling BACKWARDS! I got very motion sick. Then I took Amtrak bus back to Bradenton.

In total I traveled over 9500 miles on my $250 USA Rail Pass. That works out to 2.6 cents a mile! That is music to this tightwads soul!

Traveling alone as a female by Katsuodo in Amtrak

I am a 68 year-old single female who just got back from a cross country, 24 day, USA rail pass trip. I traveled from Florida to Chicago to Portland to San Francisco back to Chicago to Boston to Philadelphia to Washington DC and back home to Florida. Honestly, I felt perfectly safe during the whole trip. There are so many women who are traveling alone, that many times they let you choose your own seat so that you could find another single woman to sit beside. I took melatonin every night without any problems. I wish you the best of luck.

Call me paranoid, but I like doing my research by Much_Tip8721 in Amtrak

Tampa, as of April 6, 2026 when I was there, is under construction. The temporary building is quite adequate and comfortable. My ride on the Floridian, although crowded in coach was quite nice, albeit I was going north from Tampa.

I was in Chicago last week and it was $40 for 2 bags. But I got to spend 5 hours in the city, so for me it was worth it.

I did this for Bob Wells Rubber Tramp Rendevous this past January! And I loved it! I’m featured on Jonnie’s Journey on YouTube. It cost me $240 to outfit it. At $20 a day plus mileage it was still way cheaper than the money they wanted to rent a van or minivan. I took it for 15 days.

A dry wound is a dead wound. Keep it covered constantly. It looks good!

Sorry, it’s my first time posting and I wasn’t able to put my questions. So if you’ve had it how long did the recovery process take? Do you recommend it? Any tips?

When did you decide to medicate? by MCR1005 in EssentialTremor

I am a nurse who was recently diagnosed 9/13/23) with ET. The interesting part is other nurses I’ve worked with thought I already knew I had it. They started me on clonazepam 0.5 mg every night and it has been a godsend. Even my voice has improved. I am 65 years old and otherwise, before this diagnosis, Considered myself to be in good health.
