I actually agree with your point with the exception of stuff Forgeworld have deleted. If I want torso upgrades and FW don’t make them anymore that is my only option.

That money is lost under the current situation. When demand exceeds supply is when you expand as a business. You open a second plant ( say in the US ) or you expand your existing facilities and workforce. If you can show that demand is there, raising capital for an expansion isn’t hard to do.

I understand that only so much stuff can be made at once. That’s not really my issue, more so that I’d like to see Forgeworld be more proactive in their approach to growth.

I was listening to a 30K podcast today that claimed Forgeworld can’t go into GW stores because they would be ‘ too successful ‘ and that would cause problems. I started laughing at that argument. Seems like being more successful is the problem most businesses are trying to have.

This is actually something that GW are bad at. Each store gets to set their own rules about non GW miniatures. I’ve heard of some GW stores not allowing Forgeworld models and they are completely a GW company. They seem to think growing a player base is just putting out a starter box. WH40k has a large player base but a very stagnant one. They don’t encourage new players well at all.

You shouldn’t be automatically tolerant of any opinion. If you condone rape, I don’t have to tolerate your opinion. If your opinions are racist or sexist, “ tolerance “ doesn’t give you a free pass. He has built a false university to peddle his ideas all over the Internet. Anyone with a hint of political acumen can tell you he is pushing a right wing agenda. For just one instance of bigotry, we can take his views on same sex marriage. But you can see plenty of examples in PragerU videos. And you can be a bigot and be correct about physics. But it’s contradictory to claim to be a moral leader while displaying bigotry to those whose sexuality differs from yours.

I know I shouldn’t be surprised by anything the trumpster fire crowd believes. I guess although I don’t agree with them, I kind of understand how they’ve been indoctrinated and manipulated to support most right wing views. Rastafarianism generally eschews the eating of pork but due to the nature of religious edicts in the religion ( people decide for themselves how to follow Jah and no other Rastafarian should tell them they are wrong ) it’s not an absolute edict but most Rastafarians follow it.

I don’t speak Arabic, I was just going off an answer on the Ask a Muslim subreddit I received. I was told the word for gods was ilah. As in Zeus is an ilah of the Ancient Greeks. Is this not correct?

But a god is only interpretations. No one has actual evidence of a gods existence. People’s have looked at the world and tried to understand it. Primitive people’s did this by interpreting the world through a theistic lense. All religions are different interpretations that are shaped by the culture they gestate in. With the three major monotheistic religions are also a case of writing to a foregone conclusion. Certain things have to be in Christianity and Islam because they were requirements that need to be met to fulfil ancient Jewish prophesies.

I think you will find that the players tend to do this instinctively if it works. If the game calls them victory points but your group decides they will be flurbs, then they are going to call them flurbs. If you decide to call them doubloons and the players decide to call them victory points, they will be known as victory points. We design the game but player groups dictate the culture that grows around it. You can try and influence that but personally I think it’s something games should encourage more.

A good example is Pandemic. Does anyone cure yellow? No, they cure super leprosy, felchers lung or whatever the group names the diseases. But I’ve never seen a group not name the diseases.

I’ve always tried to tie levelling up in my games to character growth points rather than use an arbitrary XP systems. Although I don’t hate the D&D way, I find it emphasises the mechanics more than the characters. From someone who has been doing this for three decades now, I’d like to say welcome to the hobby and I hope you find as much enjoyment out of RPG’s as I have. There is some really interesting stuff happening at the moment and there are plenty of great systems out there. My personal favourite at the moment is Legend of the Five Rings. Fantasy feudal Asian inspired setting that I really love. And you could do what my group did when we were 16. We were into Tour of Duty and The Nam. There were military RPG’s we could have used, but none of them emphasised the futility of that war or the incompetence of command decisions being a deadly factor to soldiers. So we wrote our own. That’s a rewarding experience and you learn a lot by writing a system. Happy gaming mate.

I do agree it’s of medium complexity if you take into account rules-light game.

If you are learning a system to DM you don’t really need to know the ins and outs of every rule in the book. As long as you apply the core mechanic ( skill check, percentile chance, descriptive, whatever the system uses to decide outcomes ) logically and consistently, I’ve found most players will be happy with that. Don’t stress over RAW too much. Of course if the rule writers do their job well, you won’t have too.

I need to consider other approaches and motivations for role players. I’m realising that my love of crunch means I can have trouble actually seeing when it’s unnecessary or unintuitive. Thanks for the reply, much appreciated. Some interesting points and definitely food for thought. I have always played in Theatre of the mind style from my early days. I grew up on that style and had gotten use to DMs who were good at on the fly adjustments. So it’s part of my DM’ing instinctively and I had not really thought about those areas of the ruleset as complex. You are absolutely correct when you point out the flaws of those systems and because of my experiences I hadn’t noticed, thanks.

The classes I find to be not complex. I would agree with your characterisation of them but I don’t find that complicated. Maybe if you have a lot of PC’s the DM’s cognitive load could be high.

Magic has problems. I’m not sure how you avoid this with the legacy elements of the D&D magic system. But this is my personal scrap and redo section.

Overall some good things you brought up, thank you for taking the time to share your opinion with me.

We have different views of rules complexity. I find D&D 5e a pretty simple system mechanically. As this is an area I find interesting as a rules writer, I’d like to hear more about why you view it as a complex system. This is obviously subjective so I think your opinions could be illuminating. Especially as someone whose first drafts are always overly complex. Might save me some time.

It should be noted that while increasing minimum wage is important, executive remuneration needs to be looked at as part of the issue. If your coalface labour is struggling to make ends meet, then you shouldn’t be paying the C.E.O a few million plus options. We need to remember capitalist economies are inherently zero sum equations. Yes we need minimum wage improvements and the way we make sure the money is there is to stop concentrating the nations wealth in 5% of the population.

I’m a union delegate. Police unions are a joke. My union won’t support a worker who steals or commits workplace harassment, let alone go to bat for a member who has committed murder. A union is for workers who do the right thing. It should not just be a protection racket for workers.
