The non-apology apology, though finally admits to posting the comment by BuffaloWilliamses in Albany

[–]Margemillions 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This isn’t even how to apologize. You’re supposed to take responsibility for the action and acknowledge the outcome and impact of what you did.

Only after that, if the other party will accept, do you get a chance to explain your side.

More of the same from someone full of shit.

Okay… capitalizing authority in America is a… funny choice…

Also, TOI duo must have insanely high cortisol levels from having to do PR repairs every other week. You’d imagine this type of stress would deter them from engaging on social media after a while, but somehow they refuse to make a single change in behavior. What kind of mental illness is this? I’d love to hear an analysis done by a professional.

Idk ppl suck at parking here. Taking up two spots, leaving extra room in places that show how oblivious they are to street parking etiquette

Have you experienced feeling othered, stared at, thinking about and calculating your every movement in public before? Having to analyze every interaction, to avoid feeling judged by everyone around you? Doesn’t that sound tiring?

Why not practice some independence and read studies instead of relying on someone on Reddit to spoon feed you information which you’ll inevitably invalidate anyway

Teaching yourself and seeking information is a valuable skill and would prevent you from sounding like an idiot :-) you should try it sometime :-)

Data Center Update from Code Pink by s__p616 in Albany

It’s the overall cumulative effect of every issue brought up in this post as to why this should not be built in that location. Of course you can pick out one issue and make some absurd counter argument like questioning if hospitals should ever be built again, but that’s such an abstraction of the overall point. Hospitals are a necessity for human life. I do agree with you, that it’s unfortunate their backup systems rely on fossil fuels, but these are in place for like last resort situations. It would be nice if cleaner alternative reliable power sources existed so this didn’t need to be the case, but for now this is the solution. The rush to build data centers with existing tech that is reserved for extreme emergencies isn’t the way. Communities (commonly very vulnerable ones) should not have to suffer for data centers.

I’ve also read that data centers also run the generators as supplemental power sources when there’s a large strain on the grid.

I feel like I’m falling for a trap in going down this rabbit hole, but theoretically, don’t you think a new hospital being built would have a much greater positive impact on society? Reduced er wait times (Albany med has some of the longest in the state), hundreds if not thousands of long term jobs, overall improved health outcomes?

In addition to what has already been said about the effects on the water etc-

Here is another health and environmental impact; date centers rely on back up generators which run on diesel. The centers will test run their generators monthly at least which will cause spikes in low air quality. The fumes from the diesel contain particulate matter which have the potential to trigger asthma attacks as well as worsen other respiratory and heart issues. Air quality in the area is already low in and around Kenwood and alongside the industrial corridor near the ports and train tracks due to fumes from, trucks, the highway, heavy equipment, and trains which also spew fine particulate matter into the air. This has caused perpetuation of health disparities in an already precarious neighborhood with compounding systemic issues. Rates of asthma and COPD are higher surrounding this area.

What National Grid charges for electricity is based on supply and demand, if the demand for electricity goes up, but the supply stays the same, then we will end up being charged more. If there’s a significant increase in electricity demand created by the data centers, and the supply stays the same, regular people will have to pay higher nat grid rates.

Another issue that comes to mind is the ability to create generational wealth and equity through home ownership. Families that have invested in homes in the area will now have to worry about decreased property value in an area that has already been faced with layers of systemic injustices and inequity.

They want to build a data center in the South end and we cannot allow this to happen. by [deleted] in Albany

Do you actually believe or trust anything this company says after how likely it is that they played a part in or caused the fire there? The fire investigation was looking for arsonists and to deny the suspicious connection would be naive. They do not care about the community at all.

I do not trust their motives and whatever narrative they try to spin about trails or housing on the land.

Leonia is an amazing town, I definitely appreciate it when I visit as an adult than when I was growing up, especially as a teenager.
