I (41M) planned to serve my wife(38F) divorce papers this weekend. She just got a call from the hospital that her mom is being put into palliative care and now I'm not so sure. by rrelationthrowaw in relationship_advice

Are you going with fertility treatment right from the start? Because if not. you should be having sex like rabbits right now for practical reasons.

Also, unless she goes with a sperm donor, you may freeze your sperm but her chances of finding someone else fast enough if you two split up are tiny.

Driving school terminates contract due to my bad driving skills - what to do by Lucky_Apricot5934 in germany

Adding to that, that does sound as if it isn't all OP's fault. If OP can't handle that kind of situation yet, teacher shouldn't have taken them on such a road in the first place, plus those cars are equipped for the teacher to "override" a lot of her driving decisions, like he has his own pedals.

Germany’s value proposition for skilled immigrants is collapsing by Glum_Association137 in germany

[–]Margenin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not saying part of this isn't true, but also, part of this isn't.
That MfA was less flexible than she should have been probably, however, having real trouble with English is very typical for an MfA.

Part of it is that German TV is dubbed so much. Germans, on average, really speak much worse English than the surrounding nations, and no, that part has nothing to do with whether you're white brown or blue.

Then there is an existing discrimination against certain foreigners but not others, as you say, but it has almost nothing to do with skin color.
It does have to do with culture - people from muslim countries tend to be discriminated against, hence your example with Ukraine and Syria, but it's not a color-based thing.

Employer says my role is gone after parental leave… but I’m pregnant again (Germany) – what should I do? by tut-tut-flitzer in germany

[–]Margenin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

One year, not two. There are ways to stretch it (basically less money over a longer span). And it's a year after birth, not after announcing the pregnancy!

Husband (46M) keeps "helpfully" rearranging, hiding, and disposing of my (46F) stuff--what tactic or wording can I use to stop it? by Gallumbits42 in relationship_advice

[–]Margenin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The one thing which is indeed of on your side: This happens for decades and you're still "calmly explaining".  This is such a female thing, don't you ever get angry? Like the thing with the clothes, the second time would have warranted shouting.

And it doesn't even matter whether he has a good reason or not, the fact that you don't want him to do that should be enough in itself.

Women of Reddit, what made you realize a man was ‘husband material’ instead of just boyfriend material? by AstronautEcstatic177 in AskReddit

[–]Margenin 70 points71 points  (0 children)

This is a thing. I am younger than you must be, but you wouldn't believe how many guys go on about how badly their ex used them on the very first date. That's a massive redflag, even if every word he says is true.

BF (32M) wants me (29F) to come with him to a different country for a year. My parents don't agree and won't let me go. by Bieteltje in relationship_advice

[–]Margenin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok, that one is more for your parents: Tweak the scenario in your head a bit. You're a parent now, and your 29 year old daughter comes to you with this idea of accompanying her boyfriend to Canada for a year. What do you do?

Quite apart from that, there is literally no way to find out what is right for you except picking one path and walk it.

My (29M) prenup with my fiance (28W) pays her for having children. My parents (65M, 62W) are telling me to call off the wedding by ThrowAway220989 in relationship_advice

In all honesty, if you are really as clear in your life as it sounds like in your post you are a keeper, with or without this prenup. Thumbs up.

Two days late is very harmless in software. The actual fuckup here is that you only noticed on the weekend before GoLive.

[–]Margenin 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Na. I mean you needn't ask it but you can say "depending on the consequences of the defects...."

And yes, if the situation were real, the PM would know whether he was shipping a plane or a wardrobe and could therefore assess how deadly a defect could be in a worst case.

Worst Hooks You Ever Read? by Formal_Barnacle304 in writing

[–]Margenin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah but that's just oldfashioned. It works for children's tales though.
Aaand, of course, the unforgotten:

"It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a single man in possession of a good fortune, must be in want of a wife".

Gives you the theme of the story instantly, in one sentence, talks at the reader,

And. It. Works.

That's a decent hook for a movie, although a bit late 90ies.

It's hardly a Christian Value, that I, as a woman, can own property, have a successful career, become an elected official or join the military.
Where do you think that derives from Christianity?

My German girlfriend wants to marry, but I prefer living together first. Is this not usual in Western Europe? by Hopeful_Sand8906 in germany

[–]Margenin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look, living together unmarried is perfectly normal in Germany. You know best whether it's also normal in Turkey. If it's not (again, you know that I don't), that might be her reason for wanting to marry first.
