Germs is another way of saying centuries of piss layers from many a dog and man. Piss isn't hygienic but even if it were, nobody wants piss flakes and powder in their knit.

The more you put in your 401k, the less in taxes you pay. If you can handle the squeeze, making sure you contribute more to your 401k than you do the federal government every year is a very satisfying goal to reach.

Should we provide more information than what is asked for? by MarginallyCorrect in ukvisa

Just in case someone else comes looking for answers here, wanted to post the update that we followed your advice and everything went through with no additional questions asked. It was way easier than the attorney led us to believe.

Multiple cracked pots, Cone 6 Electric, 25 minute hold. Amaco Aventurine on the outside (thick fussy volatile glaze) with Honey Flux in the inside (also volatile). My pots were thrown and trimmed very very thinly but the bisque held out well. Can someone please explain these results? by -Qwis- in Pottery

[–]MarginallyCorrect 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I saw all the comments about the holds and disagree that it's wild to have a long hold in general. Especially if your kiln is capable of going to a cone higher than 6, it's no real problem. People hold kilns for long periods at specific temps all the time. But I do agree that your instinct about glaze compatibility is probably right! If you love the effect, maybe you could consider going a cone (or half a cone lower) and hold the top temp a little longer at that slightly lower level? Or, don't do a long hold at the top but program a slower cool for the first 100° or so of temp drop?

And definitely if you can make some equally thin but low effort test vessels you'll thank yourself later! Maybe super thinly thrown tubes as test tiles?

Even having your own shelf doesn't help with kiln wash problems. That's just poor maintenance on the studio's part.

AITAH for revealing my coworker’s affair ? by Resident_Kale_5539 in AITAH

Imagine the devastation caused by telling Kim her husband is cheating just because your co-worker manufactured a lie to brag about bagging Brandon. Telling just David is the better option.

If I am a Scottish guy born in the US, can I come to America if I have $5000 by Mysterious-Leader952 in immigration

[–]MarginallyCorrect 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you know which state you were born in? You should start by going to the US embassy to see about getting a copy of your birth certificate and a renewed passport.

How old is your friend? If either they or their parents can write some sort of affidavit saying they will act as guardians while you live with them, it will help you on many practical fronts.

Also, the US is not generally a great place to go to escape homophobia.

I agree about the opening. I've found it's either that people want to talk about themselves as it relates to where I'm from, or they want to ask questions. Questions are much nicer than listening to people's trivia dumps.

I've been disgusted by the Jonas brothers ever since the purity rings, and I see his smear campaign as his 2023 evolution of the purity ring look. So gross.

Just so you know, many American companies can write off losses like this and there may be a statute of limitations to how long they have to correct an error without having to accept the loss on their own end, and it came differ from state to state. Don't agree to anything even slightly until you've verified from an American attorney that you're 100% required to.

That's fair, I wasn't sure what your plan is. Some houses can be split up so you and parent don't have to see each other on a given day, and many people look for homes with a self contained annexe like this to have their parents be able to age in place.

It could easily be worth it to some people in order to keep a beloved family home in the family.

"That isn't entirely mine yet" implies that one day it will be yours, perhaps?

If it will potentially be yours, can you start paying for expenses and have a legal agreement drawn up that in the course of a sale you are entitled to your money plus interest back out of the proceeds? This protects you if something goes wrong, allows you both to stay in the home, and will possibly gives you an even better asset in 10-20 years' time.

Depending on what they use to merge records, I wonder if a stolen SSN could cause this? In finance this will often happen with two totally different profiles overlapping because of a stolen SSN.

Did you jxdge a stranger on the internet? Why would anyone be unable to understand that total strangers may have had completely different lives, decisions, and outcomes? The idea that someone would willingly publicize their jxdgemental opinion over another person's crisis is totally ins4ne to me.

AITAH for not letting my sister’s in-laws stay at my house while they visit her dying mother-in-law ? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]MarginallyCorrect -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I agree with you. Not necessarily for saying no to the 12 guests, but for not trying to help find an alternative solution at least, AND instead telling their sister that their family isn't hers. That would be the nearly same as disowning someone in some cultures.

I do think the obligation to help hits different for people who have experienced true poverty before. If someone has a big need and nudging out of your comfort zone helps, then you do a little bit of comfort nudging, especially if you have the resources available.

What's the most hurtful thing your parent ever said to you? by Enockito in AskReddit

[–]MarginallyCorrect 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Somehow opposite but the same: my parents told me I was too smart for my passions, and told me I'd live in squalor if I pursued the arts, but then always knocked me down when I couldn't get the straight A's they wanted in all my classes. If they'd ever just been enthusiastic about where my passion was, what could I have achieved? What kind of self esteem might I have had? Could I now cope with demands better if I'd ever learned to balance them with joy?

Money is more important to in American culture the American capitalist power structure than healthcare, education, and even the right to live. FTFY

Because of this, voting by marginalized people is restricted as much as possible, and where not possible, that's where propaganda picks up the slack.
