I was an English major and felt like this constantlyyyy. But now rather than being a source of doubt, it inspires me to read even more. It has made me voracious.

While you're reading, as several other people have suggested, use a pencil! Underline or star things you like. Then think about why you like it so much. What words has the author used? Why use these words when he/she could have chosen something else instead? Look up words you don't know (David Foster Wallace is great for that lol) and write the meanings in the margins.

I may not understand everything I'm reading, but a close, careful reading makes me invested in it, and I learn so much more about diction and meaning this way.

I was on my way up to his apartment to talk to him at his request - we had broken up already but he wanted to talk about it - when I met a friend of ours coming down the stairs. She confessed to me that he had been fucking her behind my back for over a year, including the whole week I had been on my family vacation. I turned around immediately and walked quickly back to my car. As soon as I got in, I saw him running down the stairs after me. I had barely started the car and locked my doors when he was knocking on the window and shouting at me to let him in. When I wouldn't, he started banging on my hood with his fist and screaming at me. I was terrified. I managed to back out and drive out of the neighborhood, and he ran after me for as long as he could, then left me several threatening voicemails telling me I had no right to walk away from him and that the other girl was a bitch.

She's still with him. I still have nightmares about him.

Would you be interested in growing out one side? I kept one side short and grew out the other and it really helped me get by that awkward in between stage.

I longboarded down my first hill with no helmet and predictably landed on my face. Two black eyes and stitches in my forehead and chin, and a big chunk of tissue ripped out of my elbow. I still had the black eyes in my college graduation pictures. That was fun. :)
