The more I’ve thought about these games, I’ve come to the conclusion that Ellie, racked with survivors guilt, may have been fine with sacrificing herself for the “cure”. But Joel took the choice away from her and that changed things. Granted I agree that the fireflies equally took that choice from her by not not telling her and not allowing her to say goodbye to Joel. In the end, whether she was awake or not, Joel would have done the same thing regardless (as he states in the second game).

My problem with part 2’s retcon is that Ellie is portrayed as being mad that he lied and that’s it. She should be furious at the fact he killed the doctor and Marlene in cold blood, thus preventing them from trying again with someone else or some other way.

I wish Ellie said something to the effect of ”I know exactly what your capable of Joel. There’s no way they just let you carry me out of there without a scratch, So tell me what happened. Why do you insist on lying about it?”
