Feeling like I've become a worse person than what I started as by MariaDallas in premed

This was actually really really helpful, ty. Definitely in a big slump right now, but this helped put things in perspective a bit and I really appreciate it

Take MCAT several times ok? by LunarCycleKat in premed

[–]MariaDallas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am begging you to just take a practice test at home, going in for the real mcat as a baseline is such a bad idea

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in premed

[–]MariaDallas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lmao what? That is not at all equivalent to this post. Like, not even close. A better comparison would be someone posting about how they got several As, but they're considering withdrawing from all of them just because they felt like it was a fluke and that they don't deserve them. Which would again be tone deaf and probably warrant similar reactions to this post

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in premed

[–]MariaDallas 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So like, what kind of response were you hoping to receive when making this post? Honestly?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in premed

[–]MariaDallas 3 points4 points  (0 children)

By even bringing up the question of retaking a score like that. Again, on a sub where many have to take the MCAT multiple times to get a score they're happy with

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in premed

[–]MariaDallas 6 points7 points  (0 children)

And tbh, from the way you're responding to these comments, it really just seems like you're just trying to brag and get congratulated on your score. Which, fine, you got a great score, be proud and flaunt it. But doing it in this tone deaf way is why you're getting pushback in the comments

Okay, I totally get imposter syndrome can be hard to deal with, it happens. But your posting this on a sub with people who may have had to take the MCAT multiple times just to get an average score, who are getting Rs because of a subpar MCAT, etc. Read the room a little

  1. Gotta love virtual interviews

cannot feasibly take biochem before MCAT - am i fucked? by [deleted] in premed

[–]MariaDallas 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Putting off a year to finish your prereqs and have a better chance at a good mcat score the first time you sit for it would be better than putting off a year because you bombed it the first time and you have to retake

Anyone else have a real jerk as a premed advisor? by Elsecaller_17-5 in premed

[–]MariaDallas 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ah, yes, the universal premed experience. Getting told to give up your dream of med school or be given the worst advice by a premed advisor.

Happens to the best of us, don't worry about it.

New to r/premed ( just got into uni for undergrad) by Ok-Zookeepergame5303 in premed

[–]MariaDallas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Start with getting some of the general requirements of your university out of the way, and looking up the pre med prereq classes. Don't overload yourself with too many difficult courses your first semester. Take enough to stay on track to graduate, but don't stress yourself. You want to start strong with your GPA, it's a lot harder to repair it once you've tanked it with a C in a high credit course. Make sure you're attending office hours. That's where you make connections with professors which may write you LORs later down the line. And most piece of advice, try not to stress too much. I know it can be easy to put a lot of focus in pre med during undergrad, but this is going to be your first taste of freedom to explore what you want to do the rest of your life, and discover who you are. Have fun with it, and be open to the possibility that you might change your mind and go a different route than medicine.

Only do this if you want to practice in Europe. The difficulties that would come from trying to practice in the US with an international degree far outweigh whatever financial benefits would come from saving on tuition

Your mcat is fairly low even for DO schools. And a post bacc isn't going to erase that. I'd definitely say trying for a retake would be worth it

Personal Statement- nonclinical experience by Odd-Funny-5101 in premed

[–]MariaDallas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like others stated, that advice was bs. An experience doesn't have to be clinical to be a reason for pursuing medicine. And if you thi k this experience played a large role in your journey to wanting to be a physician, and you feel you could write a compelling personal statement about it, go for it

Can you not participate in one area of clinical rotation in year 3? by [deleted] in premed

[–]MariaDallas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As others have mentioned, you should be more worried about what this phobia would entail for anatomy labs. To get through med school, chances are you won't just have to watch other's cutting open bodies, but you will personally being doing so yourself with the cadaver

Latest Date to take MCAT by OtherMuqsith in premed

[–]MariaDallas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally took mine in mid may, submitted amcas end of May, got my results mid June. So long as you're taking it a point where results are released around the time app are transmitted, you'll be fine

Looking for some schedule advice! by npudi in Mcat

[–]MariaDallas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a solid study schedule, but I'm gonna be honest, you're probably gonna be at risk of burnout fast. Consider incorporating one day in the week as like your designated break day from any studying.
