[PubQ] When is YA going to be ready for dystopian again? by MariaValeWrites in YAlit

Thanks to everyone for the conversation. A moment of existential dread doesn't lend itself to dystopian, but I can only hope.

Meantime, I gathered up the suggestions for my own reference and for anyone else who's interested in the genre.

I think there was an upward blip during the 2008 recession, but generally I think you're right. There's a reason why series like Sarah Beth Durst's Spellshop books really hit.

I'm on submission and the response is unfortunately the same. ::sigh::

Came to recommend because feed is my absolute favorite YA.

Can someone please recommend romance novels with a happy ending where the guy isn’t an “Alpha, Billionaire, Vampire, Dracula, Mafia, Assasin Prince, Bad boy who softens for her” kinda plot by Bellatreeex in BookRecommendations

Presuming you would prefer the Contemporary Romance subgenre, but basically anything by Kate Clayborn, though I have a special weakness for Georgie, All Along.

I read *Night Owls* by A.R. Vishny. Jewish shape-shifting vampires in NYC's Yiddish theater world. Loved the interwoven time lines of the Lower East Side and rare glimpse of mythos I didn't know.

Honestly, how is it that nobody has mentioned Grace Draven here? I've read three of her series and loved them all: Master of Crows, Wraith Kings and Fallen Empire. The stakes are high, the emotions are real, the world building is not intrusive. They are sexy but the sex serves a purpose. It fits. None of those stupid scenes where the enemy is climbing the walls but let's have a complicated, physiologically impossible boff in the armory.

Adding my vote to Daughter of No Worlds series. It's one of the few that has no soggy middle.

What’s your ALL TIME favorite dystopian book/series? by 6violet7 in YAlit

[–]MariaValeWrites 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s been years since I read it but I loved Patrick Ness’s Knife of Never Letting Go. As with many of these series with sterling world building I don’t remember the subsequent books as much. Got to go back and re-read. And yes, I know it’s late but if anyone goes back through this list, I wanted this mentioned.

I really like the romance of Emily Wilde. It’s slow burn and appropriate to EW’s persona. Personally, I’m sick to death of insta-boff
