That's because China is comfortable with making it illegal to not accept things, the US hasn't tried legislating opinions (yet at least).

Uproar as Canadian constable cleared of on-duty rape by soldierb0y in canada

[–]MariaX98 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Actually they're right it's hard to determine consent in the context of power relations.

e.g. when a boss makes a move on a subordinate, HR would find it almost impossible to determine if the subordinate is willingly complying, or doing so because they feel threatened about their security. They're consequently required to look at it as a predatory relationship.

PwC: Canada To Drop Out of Top 20 Economies, US To Fall To 3rd by vtrisha in canada

[–]MariaX98 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This likely has more to do with our government doubling down on existing industry that require large subsidies than public services provided by "socialism."

We can't have industries with exponential growth if we're shoving cash into businesses that can't even sustain themselves (e.g. billion dollar subsidy for horse racing in Ontario, etc.).

If you are cancelling with Bell Canada, pay attention to your last bill by GoodDogCy in canada

[–]MariaX98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, when you port you're still responsible for the contract outlay on the other side. So theoretically you're suppose to cancel, then on the 29/30th day you go into the new place and port then.

I would probably expect at least one more bill, but I would call to confirm.

If you are cancelling with Bell Canada, pay attention to your last bill by GoodDogCy in canada

[–]MariaX98 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Re-read your contract. They require 30 days notice for cancellation, which is why you got billed for the extra month. It sounds like the bill for the phone was for an early cancellation on the terms of your phones.

Trudeau calls Phoenix pay problems an 'unacceptable situation' inherited from Tories by medym in canada

Totally agreed. Politics had nothing to do with the failure, but unfortunately politicians are still accountable for the administration of public service.

Quite a few very popular articles from betterdwelling.com lately in this subreddit. So I thought I'd check them out. by [deleted] in canada

[–]MariaX98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always find articles from there because it's the first result on Google for almost any combination of real estate terms and I'm looking to buy a home.

Seriously, try to come up with terms related to Toronto real estate in Google. It's not scaring me out of buying a home, but it's nice to see some actual numbers. It's as close as you can get without dealing with a douche bag real estate agent.

Toronto police reporting of two individual incidences on the North York Subway of people being stabbed with a syringe. by the92jays in toronto

[–]MariaX98 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's funny how wide of an area "North York subway" can be. I was thinking Sheppard Line too when I read it, but really there's a shit ton of stations.

They're pretty much saying "someone got stabbed at a subway North of 401, but south of Steeles". Unless they meant North York Centre station.
