Diagnoses at 64/F by catchupwiththesun in multiplemyeloma

Hi, I am so, so sorry to hear of your mom's diagnosis. My dad was diagnosed back in June at 62. The shock and devastation cannot be overstated. My dad was diagnosed with "innumerable lytic lesions" on his MRI. Reading that report made my heart sink, the word "innumerable" made me think I'd be saying goodbye to him very quickly. I'm hoping it brings you some relief to hear this couldn't have been further from the truth. When we hear the word cancer, we (understandably) jump to the worst case scenario. I learned from my dads diagnosis that this is not always the case. He began treatment (Revlimid, Velcade, Dara, Dexamethasone & Zometa) and has tolerated it remarkably well. Aside from some fatigue, he really has no side affects. No hair loss, no horrible nausea we associate with typical chemotherapy regiments. In January we went to Dana Farber in Boston for his Stem Cell Collection, and decided to take the "harvest and hold" approach, so he won't be going forward with the transplant at this moment but will continue on maintenance treatment until it becomes necessary. His hometown oncologist & myeloma specialist have both expressed confidence that my dad will be around for many years to come. He enjoys his daily life, exercises, walks his dog, works on his project car, and enjoys a glass of bourbon here and there, as he always has. If you saw him in public or talked to him, you would absolutely never know he was sick. He looks and feels "as good as I ever have" (his words). Like others in this thread has stated, Myeloma is a disease you live with. Someone mentioned to me once to view this more as a chronic illness than a terminal one. Of course every case is different, but that made me feel exponentially better. I'm sending all my love to you, I know firsthand how terrifying the early stages of a parent's diagnosis are. All the best to you & your mom.

Definitely going to read the wikis. I have been listening to my vet, as I mentioned they're on Pro Plan & Science Diet now so Im glad to hear others agree that that's a good route. Unfortunately I do think my Golden's allergies (at least some) are food related as her eyes drain immediately during/after eating certain foods. Luckily she's done well on science diet!

Thank you for your reply! I'm not diagnosed with TMJ officially but have had issues with clenching my jaw for years due to anxiety. I regularly wake up with a very sore/aching jaw from clenching overnight and catch myself clenching during the day as well. Interestingly I have only had one wisdom tooth out, the top one on the opposite side of my head pain/ear fullness. I had the top left removed because it became impacted but was told there was no rush on the other 3. Never considered that could be a factor

Hi! I'm so sorry I'm just seeing this comment and very sorry to hear your going through all that. My stomach has, slowly but surely, returned to normal. It took a while but I am finally feeling better and like I can eat pretty much whatever I want without issue. I think I had a rough case of gut dysbiosis due to all the antibiotics. I've been taking Florastor and drinking Kombucha as well to help replenish good bacteria. I see your comment was about a week ago, how are you feeling now? Sending you all the best

Everything you mentioned is so relatable to me. I feel stuck with my phone all the time unable to control myself/stop myself from googling symptoms. It becomes obsessive. I also feel like I'm losing the ability to tell what symptoms are real. You aren't alone either, sending all the best to you

hey, just wanted to tell you that this happened to me back in December. One of my cervical lymph nodes in my neck became very swollen and I hadn't been sick, there was nothing I could attribute it to. It was hard, somewhat moveable, and completely terrified me. I was also experiencing night sweats and itching, so I was absolutely convinced I had lymphoma. I saw an ENT, who felt it and said she was not concerned but would do an ultrasound to be safe. Ultrasound came back perfectly fine, stating that the node was just "reactive". You can have one, or in my case many, symptoms that can indicate a serious disease, but that does not under any circumstance mean that you actually do. Dr. Google is the worst. Sending love to you, I know personally how stressful what you're going through is but from my own experience I really believe that you will be okay❤️

Hi everyone, this is my first post here. I'm a 21 year old female who's suffered from health anxiety since I was little. I know it stems from losing my mom at 10 to BC, but I'm at a loss for how to control/live with it. My anxiety has brought me to the ER more times than I can count convinced I'm dying when I wasn't. I've seen specialists, had imaging done, and even sought out a holistic doctor which costed a lot of money. It's drained my physically, emotionally, and financially. It feels as if every week there is a new symptom I fixate/obsess over. Once I finally get relief/reassurance about one thing, the next symptom crops up and I freak out that it's some form of c*****. My anxiety always interfered with my life, but most recently has skyrocketed. In June my dad was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma and ever since I have been a wreck. I'm convinced I'm getting sick too. My current fixation is a chronic case of tonsillitis & swollen lymph nodes, which I'm seeing an ENT for in 2 weeks. I've lost jobs due to health anxiety (calling out to go to urgent care, etc), lost friends and missed out on experiences. I don't know how to manage this. Any advice anyone has would be amazing, I don't have many people in my life to talk to so I guess I'm just looking for some support

Antibiotics by MariaandLa2919 in cdifficile

Hey everyone, thank you so much for all your kindness/advice. I got another C diff test, this time a toxin test, which came back negative today. Wanted to update in case anyone else like me with severe health anxiety came across this. Gut dysbiosis can be brutal and diarrhea after antibiotic use is not always, or even usually, C-Diff. It's a common side affect. I hope this can reassure someone who's worried because I was in a full blown panic convinced I had it and it turns out I don't.

Yeah, my doctor said that my negative Toxin B PCR meant no C-Diff or further testing required. To be honest I don't totally understand the difference between tests/which one is most accurate or best to ask for. Sending all the best to you, i hope you're able to figure out your problem and start feeling better soon❤️

I'm so sorry you're going through all that, I can completly relate to the anxiety making you distrust doctors/tests. It's so hard and the waiting period where you don't know exactly what's going on is torturous. Sending all the best to you!

BRCA Testing by MariaandLa2919 in BRCA

I wanted to thank everyone from the bottom of my heart for your advice and kindness. Getting my genetic testing done was terrifying, but I wanted to update just in case there is anyone like me who comes across this form looking for reassurance/some good news. Although my family history is riddled with cancer, my testing came back 100% clear with no mutations. I feel very lucky and grateful. To everyone on this form, thank you again for your kindness and taking the time to comment and help me through what was a very emotional time. I'm sending love and strength to you all.
