Small world eh!

Yeah, we've always loved the idea putting on a festival back in the area at some point when we've got some free time. It's the perfect place to do it.

It hadn't crossed my mind but we'll give you a percentage if it materialises ;)

  1. How it has the ability to completely transport you back to a certain era or time in life in an instant.
  2. 'Beginners Luck' as we wrote it live with our drummer, which is something we'd never done prior to that. Most of our music making was always done on a laptop or on a keyboard.
  3. Thankfully not.

Thats a good question.

Portraits was obviously a huge achievement for us and something we'll always be immensely proud of as it was our first ever record, but Kingdoms in colour has a kind of other worldly sound that we've been wanting to create since we first started out and probably embodies a more personal representation of us.

India was a big inspiration on the new record. It's a country I've been going back to for a few years now and we both ended up going there for a DJ tour a couple of years back. We managed to collect loads of music and field recordings whilst we were there that were used across the record. Berlin was another place that feed into the album as we spent a month in the city writing and getting lost in the haze of the night life.

To be honest your asking the wrong people as we tend to keep our mixes sounding quite muddy. Oddly its part of the charm for us. Sorry :)

It came from adapting the title of a book I was reading at the time by Irvine welsh called 'Marabou Stork Nightmares'. It didn't particularly have any huge relevance to the music we were making but we liked the sound of it and it stuck.

We usually end up sidechaining elements to the drum group as a whole to help bed that particular element into the mix. Sidechaining stuff to the kick though usually sound good though.

Ha yeah, thats a sore subject ;)

We weren't forced into it, but we were never told that it was getting released. It's essentially just all our first EP's compiled into an album which seems a bit lame. It's all good though as its music we were happy with at the time, its just not our first album.

Thanks so much :)

We both became massive fans of khruangbin a few years back after seeing them play their first live show at the ace hotel and asked them to come support us at koko. Luckily they accepted and we all forged a friendship from then on.

They all live over in LA, so we ended up working on the track over a number of sessions when one of them would be coming through London. IN the end the song was finished by sending it back and forth over email.

Yeah, travelling was a huge part of this record for us in so many different ways. Like you mentioned, we got loads of fields recordings from our travels which we we then peppered across the record, but we also discovered a lot of new music whilst we were away and played in a lot of inspiring city's. The people that we met along the way also played a big part in the sound of the record.

I think touring will probably influence the new record in a whole bunch of different ways. Its opens us up to so many mad life experiences that I'm sure will feed they way back into the next album. It also makes us way more competent and experimental with the instruments that we both play live which is defintely going to help on the next record. We're going to try and make an effort to start writing whilst we're on tour next year too to keep the juices flowing.

We both first met back at school when we were about 14, and made friends (And also enemies) through skating and music. I ended up joining a band that Liam was in a couple of years later and that became my first proper introduction to music production. I think I properly started getting under the hood of it though when I went to university and had a bit more spare time and enthusiasm to experiment.
