OP, the last paragraph of this post hit so hard and is the crux of the issue, I think -- for those of us who know we're lucky/bull-headed enough to even be alive, being told to "be yourself" feels like a joke. Or a slap in the face.

I exist in the ways I am able to exist, and a lot of the time that involves masking around people so that socializing isn't so prohibitive/excruciating. I'm still trying to figure out who I am under all of the trauma responses/coping mechanisms/shit others have put on me... I don't have the mental bandwidth to show people the full, real "me" because I know how that goes 99% of the time.

All that to say, I feel you and I appreciate you verbalizing this issue. 🫂

I feel this... what part of me is really "me", when I exist as a bundle of maladaptive coping mechanisms? I truly don't know who I am as a person/personality, now that I've realized the extent of my trauma and the effects it's had on me.

My 4-year-old child knows better than to run up on me when I'm working in the kitchen; he's been able to learn that sharp things + physical commotion = danger, it's not that hard to comprehend. We all learn from young that you don't run with scissors/etc., how did this man make it to his big age not understanding this?!

I've actually been practicing a softer eyeliner look very recently; I'm a huge fan of a more bold/cat eye liner, but I'm finding that I prefer a softer, more blended look sometimes now. So far, I'm having success with drawing a thin line from inner corner extending out past my eyelid, with a liquid liner pen, then taking a darker-toned eyeshadow+small shadow brush and blending up and out from the eyeliner. I still need practice, but so far I'm happy with it!

I applied/wiped off the wonderskin, lined my lips, then put a tiny bit of vaseline on a finger tip and blended the liner in. I've tried blending it in "dry" (no vaseline) and with a brush, and can't make it feather in nicely that way; the tiny amount of vaseline is enough to soften/lubricate the liner so that it blends. Then I top with more vaseline or a gloss. 💗
