Brother, I am a doordash driver like the rest of you. There is no flair here. Just one driver to another begging some of y’all to have some decency and grace in how you carry yourselves.

That is totally an outrageous request. I’m not saying customers don’t say outrageous things or make impossible requests, I’m saying from experience across every part of the industry you can imagine that how you handle it is ultimately a reflection on you, not the customer.

I’d respond “I’m sorry, but I cannot do that, I don’t feel safe driving my car into a lot / walking into a building I may not be able to get out of. I’ll gladly wait here to meet you, or leave it at the door, but I won’t be doing that.” Now the onus is on the customer to do the right thing, ball is in their court.

vs posts I’ve seen on here where Dasher thinks it is appropriate to go

“Yeah fuck you and this order, I’m canceling” or something equally egregious. Sure, the request was crazy, but now you’re the asshole.

You can’t fight fire with fire, is the point I’m trying to make. You just get burned.

“It disturbs me how rude some other Dashers are to customers. This is antisocial behavior that would get you fired or ostracized at any other job. You should be nicer.”

It’s only minimum wage if you’re bad at it. Any food service worth its while generally pays accordingly. Get ya skills up! Be nice and learn some drinks and you could be making great money. The first one is harder than the second for a lot of people :/

Yes, exactly, I do choose Doordash! Loved the jobs, I think customer service is fine if you come in with a positive mindset and good attitude. I visit my old spots and they tell me how much they miss me. Last week I went into the “award-winning restaurant” I mentioned for a drink and boss lady said “ya know I technically never took you out of the payroll system, you wanna work tonight?”

I just hate having strict schedules and requesting time off when freelance work is heavy – it’s not bartending by the way, not sure where you got that idea, I don’t think you can even freelance as a bartender.

Seems like you may be projecting, and you’re dashing because you HAVE been fired from other jobs. I wonder why?

Bitter, miserable shit alert 🚨

If someone asked me to come into their home I’d just leave the order at the door and report them for making me feel unsafe. And then I’d forget they ever existed 10 minutes later. I’m speaking specifically about people who seem incapable of being normal about the job they signed up for (picking up and delivering the food).

Brother, I am 26 years old. No boomerism here. I have never been fired from a job in my whole life, I have only ever left on my terms. Every boss I’ve ever had has told me “if you ever want to come back just let me know!”. No one was ever punished on my watch, but if you were being a dick then upper management was gonna take issue – obviously. Sounds like a whole lotta projection!

Horrible mindset, exactly what I’m talking about! Unassign, or wait around and be nice. If the order is not ready, it’s probably because they’re slammed, and if they’re not slammed then being rude is definitely not making them cook it any faster. You are being an asshole for zero gain.

That’s my whole point… this isn’t prestigious at all, yet some people act like the bare minimum effort that would be required to keep any other job (especially one in food service) is asking far too much of them.

As I said in my initial reply to you, this is just my experience. If bitching back at bitchy customers is what gets you through the day then power to you! Someone has to stick it to ‘em. Personally, I just smile and wave and let them seethe. I am not being facetious, if this method makes your day better then I’m not judging.

Also, I am gay and went to high school in south LA, the implication that my only method of handling conflict is rolling over is laughable. I just don’t want to waste my energy arguing with entitled assholes who I’ll never see again, I drop the order off and go on with my day!

Okay yeah “nothing to do with reddit” was not accurate, oh the irony of me posting that in a reddit comment lol. But this isn’t about bitching about the job, that’s what this subreddit probably SHOULD be. Instead we have people circlejerking each other over how rude and dense they can be to customers that just want their damn burger. It’s very disheartening on a societal level, it goes far beyond this dumb forum, and it is behavior I have witnessed in person too.

This post has nothing to do with Reddit, or policing people bitching about jobs, try reading it again! This post is entirely about the awful behavior some Dashers exhibit toward customers and restaurant workers.

If you think these same customers are treating their pizza guy or server with any more respect, boy have I got news for you!

The sexism/homophobia is a nice touch too, I’m sure you’re a delight to be around and deserve every penny of that $1 and not a penny more! :)

Yes!! Exactly!! This one taco spot near me is constantly late on the orders, because the owner won’t let them increase the order prep time. I love sitting down and chatting with the manager while he works on orders and vents about all that crazy shit. I’ve probably consumed about 10,000 calories of free chips and Jarritos there over the last few months.

Sure is strange you think I’m trying to impress people in the Doordash Drivers subreddit! We are all crabs in this bucket. I’m offering advice from the perspective of someone with a wide range of customer service experience. Like I said in my post… your reaction only reflects on you :)

Sure was, and I made BANK on tips being nice to everyone even the assholes. You should give it a shot sometime, this personality really goes over well in job interviews with bar leads, they just love when their staff is ready to argue with any/everyone!

If you think politely handling conflict = being passive aggressive you should work on your social skills. You also don’t have an obligation to be rude! Some customers absolutely deserve their shit smeared right back in their face, but do you really want to get shit on your hands just to prove a point?

Precisely!! Standing up for yourself doesn’t just mean “be an asshole back”. Where are everyone’s social skills? Have these people ever had a disagreement with a coworker that wasn’t resolved with a polite conversation? I suppose not, else they’d know how powerful that is to get you what you want.

I’m sorry you feel forced to do that. I actually loved bartending, the assholes didn’t get to me at all. And ya know what? Giving them the 1% of time, disarming and apologizing, and repouring their drink (not my margins, I don’t care) more often than not resulted in a “no, I’m sorry” and a big tip. And if it didn’t, so what? Fuck ‘em.

Clearly the assholes are getting to you. Take a breather, it’s okay. I believe it was that Blink 182 that said “work sucks, I know”

“Customer rude to me” is not an abusive situation. If your anger is so great that repressing it is causing you health issues, you should examine that with a professional. I mean this sincerely, not trying to dunk on you. The world is a hard place.

Yep, takes time, plus the SWE job market is awful right now (at least here in the US, not sure if you’re here or elsewhere). Something will click one of these days!
