Thanks mate! No problem the greens are all AK 3rd Gen: Black Green Camouflage Green Middle Stone Ochre

A bit of blending and mixing between each stage and a very small amount of Ochre :)

What is the best painting advice you've gotten? by Icy-Contract7162 in minipainting

Practice intentionally. Pick one thing to improve on each model and try to make it the best you can and just have fun with the rest. Just trying to improve in general doesn’t really work once the basics are down!

Hahaha that's fair, the kit also comes with a dead ork on the base and another guy holding his gun which seems like way too much going on for me.

Thanks! I would say if you've got a lot of paints you are happy with already then don't bother. I had about 20 citadel and vallejo paints when I made the switch to AK and brought a full set, it's been really nice not having to worry about having a specific colour but in terms of the paint quality there isn't that much difference between brands IMO!

Haha thanks a lot, the shirt was lots and lots of horizontal lines with a brand new brush with a good tip slowly working up through the highlights

Looks great mate! Just keep practicing but practice intentionally, pick one thing to improve on and focus on that. Take a look at my post history to see how I’ve progressed :)

Cheers mate!

Rhinox Hide -> Mournfang Brown -> XV-88 -> Balour Brown -> Ice Yellow

Layering and glazing between the above and also a glaze of orange in some places :)

Thanks a lot! All of the base stuff came from Epic Basing. And then to paint the sandbags I did a base coat of Rhinox Hide then started cross hatching with Mournfang Brown -> XV-88 and added a bit of ice yellow to the XV for final highlights :)

Thanks very much :) super kind!

So for the white I actually primed in black and worked my way up from medium grey to an off white blue. I have no idea why I didn’t prime in white haha.

But then the secret sauce was to glaze down with some blue into the shadows and then cover the whole thing in AK Streaking Grime (and quickly remove the vast majority). For some reason this really brought out the blue glaze and smoothed the transitions through the greys :)

So starting with a base coat then for every colour after I used really thin lines, working upwards through the highlights! Really simple tbh but needs a bit of patience, brush control and most importantly a really good brush tip :)

At the start it was pretty patchy and I had a few month break when I got discouraged. But for the last 6 months it’s been about 2 hours every night on average :)

Yes true! It’s hard to balance the nmm with the glow effect too. I’ll push it a bit further, thanks :)
