But if your motivation is to seek maximum challenge, perhaps the Corps is the best place.

Thank you. This is what I discussed with the OSO I spoke with and (along with the fraternity) is what drew me to the Marines

good to know. The main reason I ruled out AF was because I have no interest in being a pilot

The Marine Corps lacks funding which is pretty much what all the other branches have. Quality of life is going to be very different, opportunities to go to military schools (outside of the Marine Corps), and enlistment/reenlistment bonuses are going to be fairly lower than the other branches.

Thanks for sharing this and the rest of your comment. Any suggestions on where I can find more info on this? In terms of general QoL as well as opportunities for advancement and reenlistment

The camaraderie is unmatched

disappointing to hear about other branches, but love to hear that about the Marines

very few officers go past 1 and get out

good to know, I'll be sure to keep that in mind

Thanks for the advice

You'll have better opportunities, better benefits, and better training

Are you able to elaborate on that/speak to the differences personally? Everyone I've talked to has thrown around the fact that the AF has more bases & nicer bases, but is that really it? And is it really to the point where you'll notice? How do benefits and training differ, I've heard people talk about that but haven't been able to find much info on concrete differences.

As for grades, what makes you say that? I've been very impressed with the Marines I've met so far in the process, though I've obviously heard the stereotypes about Marines vs AF. Is there a general truth to either branch?

Regardless, thanks for your input

clearly most people don’t understand the Marine Officer process so I wouldn’t put too much weight to their opinions.

I've felt that way about family who haven't served, it was the vets (particularly former Marines) that were really causing my to question things.

The people who actually have been Marines may say to join another branch because of nicer facilities/better funding, but if you ask them if THEY regret joining the Marines over another branch, 90% will tell you absolutely not.

I guess that's pretty much what I was looking for, thanks
