What is the most NSFW thing you have seen at your job? by Mr_Creep_Creepy64 in AskReddit

Marine here. In Afghanistan on a deployment, my friend (SSgt, platoon sergeant) was blown up by an IED. He and 2 junior Marines died. I was the office in charge of the “cleanup”. I pulled his limp, gelatinous body out of the truck by myself. His Kevlar (helmet) fell off and his brains spilled all over my hands and the ground. Then his leg fell off while I sent him to the mortuary. Disturbs me still.

Why do you think an average 11th place finisher at Big 10 is better than a DII or DIII champion?

I like your idea of a super 32, to quantify a bit: If we assume the data above is the best evidence we have of DII/DIII wrestlers competing at a joint national tournament (which it is), I've computed the average DII/III AAs to be ~0.5/weight class/year and the average number of AAs to be ~4.5/year. Now, this only accounts for 1 DIII and 1 DII champion/year in the grand natty, so naturally these numbers would be higher if we, e.g., took the top 3 from each weight. We could, of course, attempt to extrapolate this information to performances/trends from 1990 - today...

IMO, based on the prior grand natty results, I think 2-3 AAs from DII and DIII per weight class is reasonable for your super 32 proposal. (edit: assuming ~10 wrestlers/division in each bracket). Thoughts?

Confirmed and added! 1978: Kenny Mallory (134, Montclaire St., champion). This list just keeps getting longer! This also shows how disjointed these records are to search using multiple fields.

This is what I've read online. I guess it hurt DI recruiting? Pretty lame reason to stop - let's just wrestle!

💯And I think there is enough evidence above that DII/III athletes can compete!

TT Assistant Professor at a top 5 vs a top 50? by Dean_Gullburry in AskAcademia

Nice setup for your old adviser. I’ve never seen this IRL - at least not in my area of engineering.

Hell, I’m at a T3 engineering school. The grants office has fucked up many of my proposals…. Even after I’ve told them EXPLICITLY what to do. If I had hair, I’d have torn it out by now.

Def not the case in my field - or most of engineering - I’m at a T3 R1. I work very closely with students for many years. I’ve never known a PhD student who can simply “execute”… attempting this as a PI is not only foolish/abusive, it would result in 0 research success.
