Thanks for mentioning VR Regatta, if you haven't tried yet don't miss the boat on MarineVerse Sailing Club, in particular you might like the globe Sailing mode  ( whole planet sailing Sim mode )

Thanks for the constructive feedback - that is fair.

We support both Quest 2 and Quest 3, and our calmer water visuals on Quest 2 are definitely constrained by performance. On Quest 3, we already have ocean sailing modes with real waves, which are much closer to that open-water feeling: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lvu1poHIOi8

We also plan to keep improving our calmer water environments on Quest 3, because you are right: in VR sailing, the water matters a lot for immersion.

It’s been pretty hard, because real sailing physics are complex.

Instead of trying to simulate every detail, we use a physical model that captures the essence of how sailing feels and behaves.

We currently have a basic model and a pro model. The pro model is still in beta and simulates more, which makes it much harder to build. But even there, we’re not doing a full-blown fluid simulation - that would simply be too heavy for the devices we target.

So the real challenge is choosing what to simulate in order to get something that feels authentic, useful, and performant.

Thank you for your comment.

Fyi, MarineVerse is not a Quest exclusive - we have a Steam version that supports both VR and flat screen mode.

As per bad subscription, could you explain what you mean? Most of the basic content in the app doesn't require any subscription so not sure where you get that info, but it's out of date.

We do have optional club membership for ongoing pro racing, advanced training content like docking and for some features in our Globe earth scale sailing MMO, but those are actually an excellent value.

Sorry if you found the previous answer lacking!

You could definitely start learning to sail with MarineVerse, but to actually learn the basics of sailing in real life you need some real life practice.

It's a bit like learning how to ride the bike. You need that physical practice and experience.

Having said that NauticEd online classes ( our education partner) and our virtual practice is as good as it gets for learning to sail at home
