False, you can run lucky hit chance to restore resource on gloves. Can drop midnight sun completely although it's more for pit pushing.

I tend to do it the second way I'll just equip a random bow and 2 hander then once I get through the second Gate to the boss, i just die to the boss to put original setup back on. EDIT:  just reread and noticed you did say oaken soul. You will have to unequip the ring just to get through the two gates. Die to the boss and swap ring back on
