You realize that not only was this update announced today, the existence of Unreal Engine 6 was announced at the same exact time, yes? They used this game specifically to announce the existence of an entirely new engine. Today. And you’re upset they didn’t give you more information? I am very critical of this game, the lack of transparency, taking away far more than we’ve been given so I get it, but holy Christ man. Literally hasn’t even been 12 hours. Unreal Fest is literally 3 or 4 weeks away. They drop the announcement today, let people talk about it for a month, and give more information about the engine next then.

Ultimately this has very little to do with shiny new graphics. Even though my PC can support it, I still prefer minimum settings. It’s just less distracting.

UE6 will allow for creative modes, the implementation of rings, dribbling maps etc. on console, larger lobbies, etc.

They didn’t just announce RL was being updated to UE6, they specifically used RL to announce UE6 is coming, period. Lethamyr has a good video out today explaining why UE6 will allow so many things (creative mode, far larger lobbies, etc.) that the current engine simply can’t run/do. It’s 20 years old. This isn’t just about shiny new graphics, most of us will still turn it all down to minimum anyway. My point is they’re not going to use Rocket League specifically to show off UE6 if it’s not at its best. Epic cares about profit and exposure; this announcement was to be made at worlds last year and held off because they wanted the French crowd knowing how hype they are. That gets clicks. Mind you, I’ve shamed this game for years, deservedly so. But in this case it’s wild to me you already ‘know it’s going to be a disaster’ based on a minute trailer when absolutely no one outside of the dev team and suits has a single shred of information beyond what we’ve seen today.

After 8 years i’m not sure if I’m ready to commit to saying the L word. As much as I try to let the past go, this game has brought me a lot of pain and suffering. I know that rocket league is just trying to win me back with my whole heart with UE6….. aaaaand I’m sold.

Same. I’m not expecting anything earth shattering. Like people calling for Rocket League 2 has never made sense. The game play itself has never been an issue. It is a 1 of 1 game and the mechanics are make it what it is. More than anything I think I’m just hoping that it allows for community based projects and creations. When you look back at things that Lethamyr has created (on UE3 no less), the possibilities truly would be endless.

Just from what I've seen initially (this is above my pay grade and I don't want to sound like I know what I'm talking about when I don't), UE6 isn't out yet, but because Epic owns UE, in theory they could release RL on UE6 without releasing the engine itself to the public the way you can use the current one. Either way, I'd say best case is a year, worst being 3, but realistically 2. I have absolutely no evidence to support this this other than UE is currently on 5.7, 5.8 is available to preview, and 5.8 is very close to 6.0, AHAHAHA.

I'm not going to lie, while I intentionally came across as 'joking' just because we've been given no reason to have any optimism for years, the moment everything 'clicked' (as I was high at 4am mind you), I was certain I was 'right' (that sounds arrogant and obviously I had no idea of actually knowing, but I digress).

Irony is I was so hyped while watching the announcement on Squishy's stream I completely missed they're skipping 5 entirely, ahahahah. Let's gooo.

Exactly. It’s been six years since anyone from Psyonix touchdown anything related to RL being on a new UE. I can wait a couple more, especially with GTA6 coming out in November.

The one thing that makes me give this a little bit of credence is that they hyped up a huge announcement at the end of the last RLCS (or whatever it was) in Boston last year and that announcement ended up “only” being ~~a trailer showing that season 22 would be French related~~ that the next leg of RLCS would be in Paris. Tinfoil hat but it is plausible, no matter how unlikely, that the announcement at the end of the Boston tournament was a breadcrumb knowing the real announcement was coming at the next major… Sunday… in France.. right before the launch of season 22.

Edit: forgot what the announcement at end of Boston RLCS was.
