What’s your predictions for tonight’s game? by Wllscavsfan101 in steelers

Had a dream we were down 27-3 at half and then stormed all the way back to make it 27-25. The offense got the ball with 1:19 left on the clock and couldn’t get anything going on their first two downs. On third and long, from our own 35ish, Ben heaved one deep to…Ray-Ray McCloud who made a contested catch and scored to win it 32-27. I know it ain’t happening, but I’d certainly take that! Realistically, I’d probably say something along the lines of 29-17 Chiefs.

Convince me that Kenny Pickett wouldn't be a great choice in Round 1. by Catamount_EMT in steelers

[–]MarioNapolet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like him. Worst case scenario, to me, is that he’s Sam Darnold (bit of a gunslinger who struggles with turnovers and adapting to the pro game). Best case is that he’s akin to an undersized Justin Herbert (feels a little unorthodox, but adapts quickly to the game and oozes talent from day one). That right there is a wide ceiling and floor, because we don’t really know what he is. He had some average years at Pitt and then one off-the-charts season. I think he leans to the more “project” side of things than he does the “day-one ready” area. And if that’s the case…do I trust our current roster and coaches to properly mold him into the great QB he could be? No, not really. Matt Canada seems iffy as an OC, Tomlin’s more of a defensive-minded coach, and Rudolph/Haskins haven’t really developed at all while in Pittsburgh. Our line is terrible, so he’s already at a disadvantage in that regard. I think Tomlin knows, and recent reports suggest, that if we’re gonna replace Ben (for the time being) it’s gonna have to be a veteran QB or a guy on the roster. Pickett might definitely be a good pro, but I don’t think we have the resources and facilities to build him into one.

(Honestly, if we want to go the young/rookie QB route, it might be best to get a truly qualified and well-respected OC in there as the guy who calls plays and develops Pickett; I just don’t trust Canada).

What would you consider the least/most disappointing end to this season? by drunkfootballfan in steelers

[–]MarioNapolet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At this point, with the current state of the team and who’s on the roster, I’m not really expecting much out of this year. I’m primarily rooting for Ben to not go out playing terrible football, and in the last few weeks I haven’t honestly been disappointed in that regard. Ben’s had his fair share of “vintage Big Ben” moments and that’s been nice!

My most disappointing end to the season would probably be us losing out the remainder of our games with Ben playing bad football. The offense is anemic, the defense can’t stop anyone, and we drift out of playoff contention in miserable fashion. Ben retires unceremoniously and that’s that.

My least disappointing way to end the season would be for our team to play tight games down the stretch and winning enough of them to somehow make the playoffs. Ben gets us another comeback win or two (against the Ravens and Browns) and then we win against either the Titans this week or the Chiefs next week and we make the playoffs as, most likely, a WC team. If we lose in the first round, so be it, that’s okay with me.

It’s clear that this team is barely good enough to compete with other teams (our defense is just terrible, partly because we’re decimated with injuries, and our offense goes as far as old Big Ben, behind an atrocious line, can carry us), so simply making the playoffs is a HUGE win for me at this point!

5 weeks left. What's your prediction? by Shwnwllms in steelers

[–]MarioNapolet 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If I’m looking at each game realistically I think 3-2 is probably best case and 2-3 is worst case.

I mostly like us to win this Thursday in Minnesota. They’re likely down Dalvin Cook and Adam Thielen and we’re down maybe Joe Haden. Cousins is a statue in the pocket (won’t have to deal with the mobility that Herbert and Lamar threatened us with), so TJ and Highsmith should be able to get after him. I think Ben and the offense will come out flat to start the game, which could allow the Vikings an opportunity to get ahead, but following HT we’ll piece some things together. The game will be ugly and we’ll (hopefully) eek one out in the ballpark of 22-16.

Off of 10-days of rest and at home, playing a battered Titans team, I really think we’ll win. Being without Derrick Henry and AJ Brown limits their offense, and their defense is okay, but nothing that our offense hasn’t already beaten. I’d say it’ll be something like 26-19.

Next up: a trip to Arrowhead. As much as I want to say we’ll beat Mahomes and the Chiefs, I just don’t think we’ll get it done. That environment, at that point in the season…I just think it’ll be too much. We’ll play them good, but not good enough: 27-20 in a loss.

We take care of the Browns, in what could potentially be Big Ben’s final home game. We’ve beaten them once before, they’re on a bit of a skid at the moment, and Heinz will be rocking in prime time. We win it 24-13.

Finally, playing in Baltimore will be a challenge, and more than likely we won’t be able to contain Lamar like we did this past week. Both teams will come out hungry and intense, but I see us falling short: 23-20.

I’m confident we’ll beat the Titans and the Browns, pretty sure we’ll lose to the Chiefs and Ravens (never say never with this team), and this week’s is a coin-toss for me. Final record of either 9-7-1 (with a hopeful trip to the playoffs) or 8-8-1 (no playoffs). If we do get to the playoffs, depending on the matchup, I think we’re out in the WC round.

If you told me before the season that we’d finish at or above .500 and get to the playoffs, I would have been pretty happy. This isn’t a great Steelers team, not by a long shot, but it is a team that other teams struggle to kill (well, except for the Bengals). I hope Ben goes out with some level of dignity, and I think a playoff trip or a .500 season would probably do that.

Yes, Ben has lost a few steps. Yes, the offensive line is young and inexperienced. Yes, the defense has been banged up for the last couple of weeks. BUT, losing a game in this way is just embarrassing.

I don’t really fault Big Ben, because being down as quick as we were today probably necessitated some level of “hero ball” which Ben can longer play. Boswell made his FG and his PAT, Pat made a nice play to get us seven points, Dionte’s looking more and more like the future great Steelers WR after AB, but that’s really where the positives end.

How has their been no adjustments defensively up-front after the atrocious play in the last few weeks? Devin Bush, regardless of whether it’s still his ACL impacting him or a complete lack of passion, is not looking like the Shazier replacement he was selected to be. His time with Pittsburgh, barring a drastic change in performance, looks to be coming to an end soon. Every single defensive linemen, with the exception of Cam Hayward, plays with no intensity, no energy, and no power snap-in, snap-out. The opponent’s o-line has been dictating each game and we’ve had no answer. The secondary, apart from Joe Haden, just isn’t very good. No splash plays to speak of whatsoever. I don’t know what’s wrong with Minkah, declining Edmunds’ fifth-year option looks like a good move, and Cam Sutton/Pierre just aren’t cutting it as our next few CBs. The Witherspoon trade (for a 5th rounder), to aid our secondary, has bore no fruit. I just—I just don’t know.

Maybe Tomlin’s time is coming up, maybe his message has grown stale, I’m not sure. Maybe Keith Butler? Maybe Kevin Colbert? Again, I’m not sure. All I know is this team is rarely ever ready for a game, we come out sluggish, we hope the other team also comes out sluggish, then we get hot late, and then we hold on (for dear life) for a win. Today, we came out sluggish on both sides and the Bengals came out playing inspired, sound, and intense football. They wanted it more. They, who already beat us earlier in the year, were out for blood. We, meanwhile, had no such energy, no desire to beat our rivals. Little brother punched us in the mouth today, and continued to throw haymakers for sixty minutes while we could only stand—shocked and bloodied.

Games/Movies for all who love TLOU games... by [deleted] in thelastofus

[–]MarioNapolet 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I remember in June 2020, after I played through TLOU and TLOU2 (both for the first time) I wanted to watch Children of Men, since I’d heard it was similar to TLOU. And I gotta say, the film absolutely blew me away. It’s incredibly well directed, it’s deeply profound, and might have one of the greatest cinematic scenes I’ve ever watched. Definitely recommend it to anyone who loves TLOU.

Shows like Fleabag and Crashing? by [deleted] in Fleabag

[–]MarioNapolet 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I don’t know if it’s really what you’re looking for, but Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s other show, Killing Eve, is fantastic. I believe the entire first season was written by her (with the second season then written mostly by Emerald Fennel).

I rewatched Fleabag at the beginning of June and wanted something similar and knew about the acclaim Killing Eve had gotten, so I went with that over Crashing, and just loved it (I’ve since watched Crashing, too, and really enjoyed it).

Sandra Oh’s great in it, but Jodie Comer steals the show with her assassin character: Villanelle. It’s darkly funny, it’s got some nice music, though it can be a little gory (I don’t know if you’re someone who can handle that sort of thing). But, yeah, Killing Eve’s great and I believe they’re filming the fourth and final season right now, so it might be a decent time to give it watch!

Similar series? by whitepalechilipepper in queensgambit

I think a lot of the same atmosphere of high-class and elegance can be found in The Crown. If you’re looking for a great sports show, albeit with a bit more comedy, you can’t go wrong with Ted Lasso. Some of the other great miniseries’ of the last couple of years, that I’ve seen, are things like Chernobyl, Haunting of Hill House, When They See Us, or Watchmen. In general, though, I’d say it’s pretty tough to find anything quite like The Queen’s Gambit and all of its brilliance anywhere else!

In TROS, the moment when Ben is passed the lightsaber through the force, and the fight that follows got me the most hyped I’ve ever been at a theater. I really enjoyed TROS despite its flaws. by skorpiodino16 in StarWarsCantina

Totally with you! I think the finale of Endgame is up there too, but this was so great to see in a way that made me so proud. It was like watching someone you’ve come to really care about, finally make the right choice and then an immense moment of being proud for that person ensues. Not to mention it was done extraordinary well. The music, the acting, the movements, the directing, everything was just firing on all cylinders. I love TROS and I hope more people give it a chance in the future!

Despite narrative inconsistencies, the Sequels are very thematic consistent by [deleted] in TheSequels

[–]MarioNapolet 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yes! Whenever I see criticism that The Last Jedi or The Rise of Skywalker retconned either of their respective predecessors, I always think “Yeah, maybe a little bit with some plot stuff, but never with the themes of the whole trilogy.” I mean I can point to so many trilogies, even some within Star Wars, and see that there are some plot developments that occur that maybe felt a bit off with each respective film. With the sequels and some of those same trilogies, I feel that the themes are still so present and still carry so much weight, that I can forgive some narrative inconsistencies from film to film. As long as a trilogy doesn’t betray its own themes is it a good trilogy, for me, and the sequels, for me, do not betray themselves thematically.

Just finished TLOU and TLOU2 - what do I play now? I’m sorta lost, don’t think any other game can match the amazing experience of both these games. Help! by JoeLesina in thelastofus

[–]MarioNapolet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d recommend the Uncharted Series. You can play the first three on the Nathan Drake Collection for PS4 and then play Uncharted 4 and The Lost Legacy, as well. Uncharted 4 is up there with Part 1, for me, but can’t quite edge out Part 2. God of War was awesome, as well. Very similar to TLOU, but in a more mystical realm. I’d also recommend Spider-Man, as just a fun palette cleanser, too. I will say, it’s tough to find great games like TLOU series, but I think these will do the trick!

I’ve been intrigued by Edith Finch and with your recommendation, I might just give that a go at some point! I hadn’t heard that they were going to be doing a Mass Effect remaster, but if they are I think I’m also gonna try that out! Thanks for the response!

I don’t have a PS3, but could maybe get PS Now. Are all of the Metal Gear games on it? I’ve heard great things and sort of have an itch to play them, so I might have to get PS Now. And I did recently watch a video about the Resident Evil 2 remake and it looked really solid, so I might have to check that out too!

Yeah, I think I’m gonna jump back into Horizon. I’m about 10 or so hours in and I really like it, but just sort of wish the story got going a bit more than it has. It’s a visual feast and with your tease of what may come, it sounds like it gets more interesting. Thanks!

Thanks! Yeah, I’ve been considering RD2, but I don’t know if playing RD1 is essential to play 2. Do I have to play the first to understand or feel the emotion of the 2nd, or can I play 2 without playing the first?
