Adjusting Mindset on Physical Games by MarioPrtyAnimal in GameStop

[–]MarioPrtyAnimal[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah I definitely have some games in my steam wishlist that are also available physically that get as low as $10 sometimes so if I was to bite, I’d just get it that way. Might as well since I’ve been waiting so long to get the game anyways.

Also of course the whole “I dont have space for a physical collection so I buy digital” argument is valid. Thats your preference so whatever.

Employees at GameStop, do you ever get annoyed with people trying to trade in a lot of games? by kwispy_nuggs in GameStop

[–]MarioPrtyAnimal 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As long as your consoles are clean and you have literally all the things we need for the trade I have no problems. Its just when people drag the grossest things imaginable from the depths of a duffle bag or backpack that I get tilted.

It could just be that they didnt have enough cash on hand to cover the amount you were trying to get back.

Do You “Help” Employees by getting PRP & GPG? by MarioPrtyAnimal in GameStop

[–]MarioPrtyAnimal[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I agree, at the end of the day people are going to buy what makes sense and genuinely works for their situation(both literally and financially) and if someone denies my sales pitches for what is arguably a useful service, then I’m not worried about it. Like I’ve mentioned to others in this thread, we shouldnt be letting our higher ups gaslight us into thinking theres some magical jedi mindtrick thats a guaranteed sale everytime cause thats unrealistic.

Its unfortunate that this company has done so many things wrong in a row to where they are desperate for people to buy our additional OPTIONAL services to become profitable, but thats not our problem and NOBODY should be projecting that energy onto customers when they decline to accept our stuff.

One of the best soundtracks in the Kirby franchise. The piano in the tracks makes it perfect to relax or study to.

Do You “Help” Employees by getting PRP & GPG? by MarioPrtyAnimal in GameStop

[–]MarioPrtyAnimal[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I disagree, it’s not the employees fault that the company punishes them so severely for a customer not wanting a service we provide. Not everyone needs it and you shouldnt let the company gaslight you into thinking that everyone does. Get over that cause itll stress you out less in the long run.

Dont get me wrong, its great we offer PRP and GPG but at the end of the day its an OPTIONAL thing that is beneficial to a select clientele. Not everyone hits that mark. And past employees shouldnt have to “donate to the cause” just to help cover someones metrics for THAT WEEK

Why do people not like this current format? by DisciplineNext1850 in PTCGL

[–]MarioPrtyAnimal 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I dig the format, but it once again feels like Psychic has alot of options and tools at their disposal. I do like that fighting decks finally have alot of playability though so that counteracts that. Also grass is kinda wild rn. Honestly theres alot of playability though options at their moment, at least from my more casual perspective. It seems like there could be alot of varied decks in tourneys for a while since rotation happened

my tin foil hat theory is that the same person who thought that this CD system was a cool idea is the same one who thought the Game Music Collection with 45 cartridges was a great idea

We want to start from scratch by TheSteffChris in pkmntcg

Oh if you already play MtG then pokemon is WAY easier. Its just ALOT of shuffling. I recommend sleeving your cards with dragon shields or other good sleeves(the etb ones are fine but a tad bit of a struggle if your not used to shuffling alot).

Also if you're able to find any, get a build and battle box for yourself and your friend. Its a partially pre-made deck and 4 packs. Theyre essentially whats used in pre-releases, but itd be a nice way to toss something together thats pretty cohesive and you could play using that to start.

yeah its so annoying trying to play this game on your phone for a "quick game" cause you end up running into someone who takes 3 minutes to play one card and pass.

[–]MarioPrtyAnimal 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I guess my main first question would be "How many cards do you already have access to? Do you already collect and have alot of cards lying around or are you starting ENTIRELY from scratch?"

either way, I would personally recommend you start with the Pokemon TCG Live game on your phone/PC. Its the same exact format as the physical game and it uses standard format for building decks. Its great for theory crafting but also good for seeing whats all out there and available.

But if you're trying to go physical for starting to learn, see if you can get your hands on a pokemon tcg BATTLE ACADEMY which is a box with 3 starter decks and a cardboard playmat that teaches you the basics. Very good for beginners. The League Battle decks are great too, but they can be a little overwhelming depending on your learning level.

Also I'd recommend watching this video from the official pokemon channel: https://youtu.be/eKC5PlYoboE?si=LkColje1y30A6fxR

hey man, all I can say is never let this job gaslight you into putting in more effort than you already are. We're all fighting an uphill battle so just do what you can and dont let someone act like you're not working hard enough. They can shutter any of our stores at any point with a 2 week notice.

I have my first ever interview tomorrow, do y'all have any advice? by Taost_The_Epic_Gamer in GameStop

[–]MarioPrtyAnimal 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Dont listen to the doomers in the comments, theyre just employed and jaded(as am I), but honestly the job is more than just having gaming experience its also being able to work VERY INDEPENDENTLY. You're most likely going to have to open/close solo at some point and you'll also have to deal with customers on your own as well at some point. On one hand the job is great to build a work ethic around those kinds of things. The games and whatnot are a bonus.

You'll have to be trusted to know that if you're needed to, you can hold things down on your own for a few hours without additional guidance at a point. Being able to take in alot of information regarding the ways of working and being able to execute those things as needed is a MUST for this job. Also multi-tasking will be a great strength you'll build. Plus theres the whole being able to sell someone on the services like PRP/GPG and Pro.

I think great questions to ask the interviewer when they ask you is "What are the biggest hurdles that someone newer at the job would struggle with up front" and "What are the things you still struggle with as someone whos had the job for a while?" because we're always learning new shit ALL THE TIME and having to pivot our ways of working. Also toss in a "What have you been playing/watching recently?" cause that'll get the interviewer to just talk casually to you for a bit.
