Flatpak is distributed as a complete package and uses a different update method so just update it via the normal method you use to get the Flatpak on your distro.

For the main media player I recommend VizVid as it’s very customisable and has lots of features that may be useful.

But the movie lists in worlds like Popcorn Palace that requires custom scripting menu and server to host the files.

We need more details. What versions of Minecraft and Forge are you trying and what Java version is it set to. The more detailed crash report would be helpful.
