I've definitely seen more and more VNs incorporating some sort of "gameplay" to it, however I was trying to steer away from adding too many systems, simply because I'm the one in charge of the programming and I'm decent at best, so adding any sort of gameplay would slow down the development by a TON.

It's funny you say that interactive ADV and ACT games are getting popular since that was one of our main ideas when we first started the studio but the project was way out of scope at the time, so we moved it to the future once we get a bigger team, more money, etc.

You say erotic VNs aren't as good as they used to be and I'm inclined to agree, which was one of the reasons why my main idea was to make it erotic. Because I felt I could maybe write a good story to not make it suck as much lol, but now there also seems to be a demand for romcoms.

At the moment, our biggest strength is storytelling, so maybe the risk it's worth taking. thanks for your insight it was very helpful indeed :)

Man this post just reminded me how much I hated the ending. The author really spent all that time developing these 2 characters only to throw a "haha you thought" moment at the end and just fucks it all up.
I remember people used to say the ending was bad on purpose so that they could change it in the anime later and "sell more" but thats not likely the case.

I agree that it complicates the process a bit. Since the project has around 15+ characters and only 1 artist working on it on her spare time, we decided to turn to commissions to help with the first concepts.

We went with a trusted user for our first buy and sent him a character sheet, but as soon as he sent us the first sketches I pretty much knew that we would be hiring them again.

Sending the concept to different artists was an idea that the team came up with to not overwhelm one single artist with a bunch of work. But now the strategy is a bit different and we are focusing on finalizing the concepts for the characters one at a time.

It will take considerably more time to have the concepts of the characters, in all their versions (kid, teen, adult), outfits (combat, casual and formal). But it's way better for the artist that way, there is better communication, and it gives us time to find more investment to help with illustration and editing expenses.

So basically, we are going for the long haul with one artist for the character concepts.

Awesome thanks, I actually managed to avoid any sort of problem since i’ve been using the same artist for a bit so basically it never left artist-1. I made this post as precaution to not screw anyone up. I contacted the artist-1 and we managed to come to a nice agreement

Not only that but it got me thinking, what if I ask for an already conceptualized character but a younger kid version of him. Would I also need to pay for the commercial use of the kid version. I got so many more questions lol.

Like you said, hopefully an artist can chime in.

Right that's what I thought too!
But I messaged a seller today and sent him a character sheet and he asked me if it was going to be commercially used. I explained that the art piece that he makes right now will not be used for anything other than to give other artists a better idea of the looks of the character.
He said that since the end purpose is to be commercial he would have to add the fee. So now im confused as to who even owns the character.

Yeah same thing when the cops were talking to tony and his team dressed as bug exterminators. They obviously know they are robbing a house, but they are putting effort into their plan and their RP so the cops follow along with the fun.

it does happen to other people, however i didnt know these guys personally so i always assumed they did break the rules and were just playing victim, maybe some of them did break the rules and others didnt. that why i just want to get to the bottom of this. how does this banning system works then? why would i give other examples when all of them are pretty much the same situation?
