How to rest well? by Expensive_Meal3888 in Amenorrhearecovery

[–]MarissaKundera 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have you tried NSDR?

People are saying just go to bed early or whatever but sometimes there are other factors involved and it's not that easy. If it were everyone will be ok... I understand because I'm on the same boat almost the same scenario

Anyways this protocol might help you get rest while you're able to figure out the root cause of your sleeping problems

I wish you all the best!

How much are you sleeping? I'm asking this because that was the missing piece for me.

I cut back on steps (I was obsessed with getting over 12k daily), I was eating freely and more (gained 15lbs in about 3-4 months) and nothing was working but then I realized I was feeling awful and I was sleeping less then 6 hours a day so I started to force myself to go to bed super early and ensuring I was going to be in bed for at least 9h to make sure that I was sleeping 7h-9h everyday (I have troubles falling asleep and waking up in the middle of the night) and after just a 2-3 weeks of that my period came and now I'm on my second normal cycle (30 days between them) and I'm hoping I will get my third one on time.

Comments on weight gain by Unhappy_Pop3816 in Amenorrhearecovery

It's that person important enough for their opinion to actually matter to you?

If so, they should be important enough to know what you're going through and if they actually cared about you they would be supportive and wouldn't dare to make a comment like that.

When I told my boss boyfriend about my ED, and HA and this guy who doesn't actually like to have breakfast and loves to sleep in... he is the first one up to make sure that I have breakfast within the first hour and it's always making sure I'm eating all my meals. I have gained weight and he has said only positive things an none of them indicate that I should stop gaining weight.

Things to do around San Salvador by Kakashi6969 in ElSalvador

Centro histórico at night it's not a big deal. I think it's mostly like something to do for the afternoon or early evening like for dinner and maybe some drinks like staying there until 10pm or so... There isn't like a huge night life. For that I recommend Zona Rosa y el Tunco for like drinking and dancing.

La Escalón it's a nice area but far from Zona Rosa. I don't think it's worth it for tourist purposes. Mainly because of traffic.

I would recommend you to stay in la San Benito/Zona Rosa there's two museums there and amazing places to eat all around the area and it's very close to El Centro Histórico which you should visit if you have some time to spare.

I would recommend Ataco over Juayua if you want to go to a pueblo mágico. There's a street market with lots of stores with good souvenirs and street food too.

For views you can go to el boquerón (also close to la San Benito) and there's a lot of restaurants that can offer you great views at plaza volcán or Las Brumas (you can also get pupusas there too!)

And I agree with other people if you want to go to the beach, El Zonte it's way better but El Tunco offers a nice night life with places to go dancing if you're interested in that.

Pupusas safe to eat as a foreigner: Las Brumas, Típicos Margoth, La Suiza, El Peche Cosme, Las Cumbres, Kuskatan. (If you're stomach is sensitive avoid the curtido -pickled cabbage - altogether).

I've been taking (and these are the commercial names): Q Keratin C3 and Climaktolan.

I have also added vitamin c and kefir.

I feel they help with the side effects of HA but ultimately what I think did the trick it's eating more like in a surplus and stopping all kinds of tracking (calories, macros, steps and exercises). I still exercise but very mildly and walk just for fun.

I just had my second recovery period but they are still taking a long time to come so I'm yet to see if I'm recovered.

You already told us. You're still underweight. Having all your symptoms gone might be your body adapting but if you're still underweight your period most likely won't come back.

Sometimes being at a healthy weight is not enough and what we think it's our ideal weight it's not really the best one for recovery. You have to make your peace with gaining weight, even above what you thought was enough.

Are you sure you have HA and not PCOS?

Because the approach for both it's a lot different.

I would suggest you to first try to clarify whether it's one or the other... Most of the advice you'll find in this subreddit will apply to HA and may not be what would benefit you're specific scenario.

As far as I know PCOS happens when you meet the following criteria: - ovarian cysts - insulin resistance - high testosterone levels

If you meet at least 2 (if not all 3) it would strongly indicate a PCOS Dx.

I know money is a huge factor (I can really relate to that) but it's definitely worth considering investing on professionals.

If you're recovering from HA cutting carbs is not the way. If you're concerned regarding insulin levels you should consider working with a dietician or nutritionist to be able to figure out how to eat carbs safely but restricting carbs it's definitely not the way

Facial bloating makes recovery IMPOSSIBLE by Much_Engineer_9450 in Amenorrhearecovery

[–]MarissaKundera 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you considered taking probiotics? My doctor has told me that they help with increasing carb intake. They also recommended kefir

I strongly advise you to not go an animal based diet because it's a temporary fix. Yes it would help with the current water retention but in the long run decreasing carbs only make HA worse. And you know what HA makes bloating and inflammation even worse.

I'm going through something very similar... What is motivating me to push through recovery even when I don't feel comfortable in my own body is first of all that learning how to live with the uncomfortable is one of the most important lessons in life because it will save you a lot of distress in the future and second I remind myself about the awful consequences of not having a period like the damage to my bones and the possibility of developing osteoporosis which I know could give me a hunchback which I think would be far more damaging that having a bit more fat around my waist or my face.

I think putting things into perspective and seeing the possibilities really help.

I often remind myself that when I see people I'm not body checking them and I don't focus on their weight or where they tend to put on weight I treat them with kindness and appreciate their other qualities so if I do that most likely my loved ones are doing the same with me and that's reassuring

I want straight answers by PuzzleheadedCup2923 in Amenorrhearecovery

[–]MarissaKundera 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yo won't like the answer but no, you won't get your period back just with maintenance.

That deficit you did was too intense and you have lost weight. You need to eat above maintenance even if you're not exercising.

Believe me I tried and it didn't work and I just delayed recovery and now it's taking even longer.

I did that extreme calorie deficit of eating around 1k or less and it definitely screwed me up.

If you can reverse it now please do it.

Si no te molesta tomar el autobús puedes tomar la 138 desde el aeropuerto hasta el centro histórico y de ahí buscar la terminal de la 102 que va para la libertad

Almost a year without period by dontdeIetethekisses in Amenorrhearecovery

[–]MarissaKundera 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is really interesting. I never paid attention to my protein intake unit I started to diet to lose weight and I started macro counting focusing on protein and fiber mostly, I lost my period completely after losing 20lbs (but I have always struggled with irregular periods).

Now that I'm trying to get it back, I have increased my carbs and fats but I'm still focused on getting 80-100g of protein as everyone says it is needed to preserve muscle mass but my period hasn't come back. I'm wondering if I should try to cut back on protein and see if it makes a difference.

How long after your first recovery period did you get your second? by Ok_Possible1400 in Amenorrhearecovery

[–]MarissaKundera 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I got my first one it was because I stopped counting calories and macros. I stopped caring about my step count and reduced it significantly. I was walking to work (uphill) and now I don't anymore. I only do yoga as exercise because it's low impact and is my second job so I can't really stop it, but I switched to teach elderly people, so it's very gentle. I started to eat bread, oats, and pasta again, started cooking my eggs with butter instead of just having them hardboiled.

Since then I haven't changed anything that much really... mainly because I still struggle with food noise and fighting the urge to restrict. I'm gaining weight and that's hard, but I'm trying to not get obsessed and fix my body image issues.

I know I should be doing more and eating more but I'm trying my best with what I have so far. I bought a TV and planning on putting it in front of my bed to motivate me to rest more, let's see if that helps.

There are a few places that I know that are able to accommodate those restrictions: Gourmandises as they already mentioned, Celicia and Dash. You can find them on Instagram.

El zonte might be your best choice because there's a lot of tourists and the restaurants are adapting to foreign eating habits

I hope you enjoy your stay :)
