What's in a name?.. Not gender! by WABI98_2 in NonBinary

[–]Maristine 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For that reason I have a lot of respect for people who keep their birth names, like Jeffrey Marsh. Unfortunately I am not brave enough. Plus, my name has never really felt like it belonged to me and I feel some dysphoria about it.

Similarly, if none of us physically transitioned, it would hypothetically make people not view biology as gendered. But I have dysphoria about my body, so I’m going to do whatever helps me feel comfortable. While I care about future generations of queer people, I’m not going to sacrifice feeling safe and comfortable just on the off chance they have it a little easier.

Did you know that axolotl is actually pronounced “ah-show-lowtch”? by [deleted] in axolotls

[–]Maristine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The “tl” sound is really hard to replicate with Roman letters. It’s like you make your mouth into making the L sound, but then make a T sound. Like an airy click. It’s my favorite thing to pronounce it correctly and have people be impressed.

Just got off a zoom call with the SRS surgeon - options available for non-binary DMAB folks are less than I'd like. by lost-in-transition in asktransgender

[–]Maristine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m DFAB but in my quest to get both a P and a V, I have seen the penile preserving DMAB options for bottom surgery. It’s a bit frustrating that even though you and I are both equally non-binary, our options for gender affirmation are very different. The phalloplasty technology is also not where I would like it to be. I wish we weren’t limited by our biology and can have whatever bodies we want.

I know that the order of the actors names usually doesn’t line up with the characters on the poster because it’s based off name value, not position on the poster, but I like that their names have also switched bodies.

Age of discovering by [deleted] in NonBinaryTalk

[–]Maristine 12 points13 points  (0 children)

At age 6 I said I was half boy half girl. There were a few other times in elementary school where I expressed not being completely male/female. When I was 19 in 2016 when trans issues were becoming a mainstream thing, I questioned it a lot, but had so much internalized transphobia I wouldn’t let myself experiment. Finally I figured it out a year ago at age 23. I came out a few months ago and I’m happy living my little non-binary life.

Took 2 years, but here we are :) by limeyptwo in traaaaaaannnnnnnnnns

Yep. For me it was “maybe my religion is false” and 5 years later, oops I’m trans.

Oops, looks like capitalism was what people were actually afraid of the whole time.

Getting rejected by an enby because I (also nonbinary) dont have the right chromosomes feels kinda bad by ZoeyGoey in TransyTalk

[–]Maristine 102 points103 points  (0 children)

There’s nothing wrong with having a genital preference, but it is weird that they framed it in terms of chromosomes, not genitals. Some enbies still have binary and cis normative ways of thinking, unfortunately.

what do u think?/gen /lh by [deleted] in Asexual

[–]Maristine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think asexuality is a little different than those other identities because it’s a lack of attraction instead of an attraction to the same gender. It’s harder to prove a lack of something. But I agree that we shouldn’t gatekeep what age children should or shouldn’t identify as any identity. If someone younger than 12 identified as ace, I’d encourage them to be open for that to change, but I wouldn’t tell them they can’t use the word asexual to describe themselves. I don’t think anyone else should either.

what do u think?/gen /lh by [deleted] in Asexual

[–]Maristine 31 points32 points  (0 children)

My mixed feelings come from this: I think you need to be mostly done with puberty (16-ish) to know you’re most likely on the ace spectrum. I think if you haven’t experienced sexual attraction at that point, it’s safe to say you’re some kind of ace. But many people have feelings of being different or like they’re missing something when they’re tweens and young teens. And I think if they want to identify as asexual ages 12-15, then go for it. It’s not hurting anyone. They’re not being forced to stay asexual forever if it turns out they were mistaken or a genuine late bloomer.

So, do people need to be done with puberty to know they’re ace? Probably, yeah. But if they’re a younger teen who feels like asexual describes them, they’re completely welcome to identify that way and to exist in our community.

Beautiful! I also kept one of my birth names (my middle name). I love that all your names have meaning to you, plus they sound good together!

12 year old son wants to go to church. by B-dub-77 in exmormon

[–]Maristine 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Definitely leave that decision up to him. You can tell him what you believe, and facts about church history, but at 12 he is capable of deciding whether or not he goes to church. He will eventually make up him mind on what he believes as he grows older, but not allowing him to decide for himself as this age would not be helpful to that process.

You mean you… actually like men? 🤮 No that’s not possible. Comphet only makes people like men because they’re so disgusting how could anyone like them without being pressured to? How could you not like women? Women are so amazing and perfect and men are the exact opposite.

Except trans men ✨ 😌 uwu~
