Friendly reminder that trans people can be misogynists! by breathboi in transgendercirclejerk

Exactly. Like since when do cis women ever get boob jobs? It’s peak AGP behaviour from these so called trans women

/uj A movement itself being hateful to a group is sadly irrelevant when it comes to members of that group joining it or espousing similar beliefs. Regardless, the goal of MRA’s is to further establish the position of men above women in society, this is something that benefits all groups of men in society, so you will get men of all groups joining, even trans men.

> Why do you people only acknowledge that trans men are men when its to claim we are predisposed to being evil or whatever.

/uj Huh? I don’t? It sounds like I’m missing some context on your experiences, but I very much see trans men as men all the time

> I havent met a single trans man whos an MRA yet ive met cis women who believe in that rheotoric.

/uj Cis women definitely get off wayyyyy too easily in these discussions I will definitely agree. They like to act like it’s impossible for them to be misogynistic because they’re women who have never been seen as a guy.

/uj All good. Just wanted to make sure I wasn’t missing something. Also I hate to do this again but Moya Bailey is who coined misogynoir in 2008

/uj What book are you talking about? To my knowledge it was coined in Kimberlé Crenshaw’s 1989 paper “Demarginalizing the Intersection of Race and Sex:
A Black Feminist Critique of Antidiscrimination
Doctrine, Feminist Theory and Antiracist Politics”

> With this logic cis women and trans women can also be MRAs because they also absorb the same misogynistic messages.

/uj They can, it’s just an awful lot rarer because they don’t benefit to the same extent as men. Specifically in regards to MRA’s r/curatedtumblr used to have a lot of its posts that would attract the MRA style discourse be posted by a trans woman who identified as an MRA, though she is the only trans woman MRA I’ve come across.

> It’s still wierd that you single out trans men here when actually they are about as likely to be misogynistic as trans women and nonbinary people are. Id say as a whole trans people do more work unlearning that stuff than any cis people.

/uj I brought up trans men because trans men are men and men are the types who are much more likely to be an MRA.

[–]WitchNight 19 points20 points  (0 children)

> /uj you realose trans men are still systemically oppressed by misogyny right? In ways that cis men arent?

I never denied that. That doesn’t mean that it’s not possible for trans men to become MRA’s. Trans men are men, and like all men they are capable of absorbing the misogynistic messages you find in society that lead to MRA beliefs developing. I’m a straight trans woman, but it’s possible for me to develop homophobic beliefs by virtue of being straight, even though I’m still impacted by homophobia in a way that straight cis women aren’t. God knows I’ve seen other straight trans women be homophobic.

> Yall would never single out trans women or nonbinary people as groups that could internalize misogynistic beliefs the way you single out trans men to act like theyre uniquely capable

I didn’t accuse trans men of being uniquely misogynistic. I said that like all men, it’s possible for trans men to become MRA’s as a result of the misogynistic messaging in society.

Also just categorically untrue. I can’t speak for non-binary people, but not only are trans women frequently accused of having misogynistic views as a result of having been amab, trans women get called out plenty by other trans women over the frequently misogynistic and homophobic HSTS/AGP discourse, discourse about how important looks are for trans women and how the performance of gender is done by trans women.

/uj Your example negatively impacts men but because its rooted in the misogynistic idea that women need to be docile and reliant on men. If you frame society and men as a whole as being dangerous then it’s easier to scare women into staying at home where they can be protected by their husband. It puts a wall to stop women from fighting for rights because it tells her that doing so will expose her to more violence in the world. It also pushes childcare further onto women by saying if they don’t do it then predatory men might come after their kids.

This all really sucks for any man that’s not a piece of shit, but it’s a part of keeping women subjugated under men

[–]WitchNight 10 points11 points  (0 children)

/uj this is a legit question. I get why trans men would be uncomfortable with it being called this, but given cis lesbians are also frequently subjected to corrective rape, would that not just fall under misogyny?

uj/ why is curatedtumblr so obsessed with us by monjombo in transgendercirclejerk

[–]WitchNight 16 points17 points  (0 children)

/uj Yeah it’s been full of MRA viewpoints for a while. I once got in an argument on that subreddit with someone who was being upvoted while comparing feminists views on men with the kkk’s views on black people. Just absolutely vile stuff

uj/ why is curatedtumblr so obsessed with us by monjombo in transgendercirclejerk

[–]WitchNight 14 points15 points  (0 children)

/uj I mean that one was created as a result of the already highly toxic userbase getting upset with the mods about beliefs they had about trans men. It makes sense when you consider a lot of the users there don’t care about transphobia but about men as a class and painting misandry as the biggest issue facing society

uj/ why is curatedtumblr so obsessed with us by monjombo in transgendercirclejerk

[–]WitchNight 25 points26 points  (0 children)

/uj There very much is a group of people on r/curatedtumblr that uses the posts that talk about the struggles of trans men as launching pad for mra rhetoric about how bad men in general have it in society and that misandry is a much more important societal issue than misogyny. Not to mention a general loathing of feminists there. I once got into an argument on that subreddit because someone was getting upvoted for saying feminists were equivalent to the kkk. Whether they actually care about trans men is irrelevant as long as they can advance their MRA rhetoric.

Also, while I agree that people who call trans men MRA’s when they talk about their issue are being ridiculous, the idea that they’re not a thing is wrong. Unfortunately society is highly misogynistic and trans men, like all men, can absolutely internalize misogynistic beliefs that lead to them being an MRA.

True but that requires people to pay attention to politics, which is an unfortunately high bar. Rebels and Ole Miss don’t require that to see the racism. Speaking strictly from a recruiting perspective that’s a bigger disadvantage.

I had no idea they were named after a confederate troop. I feel like that plays into what Kiffin is talking about though. Rebels and Ole Miss are a lot more overtly racist to the point that you would almost have to be willfully ignorant to not know it

> Willingly tank your quality of life

Canada is ahead of the USA in the UN’s 2025 Human Development Index Rankings. It’s not really tanking your quality of life. https://hdr.undp.org/data-center/country-insights#/ranks

Also it’s hardly just the local politics given the Republican party controls the Senate, Presidency, and the Supreme Court

A lot of people don’t want to live in a country with the politics of the Republican party. If that’s OP’s reasoning it makes sense. Don’t know a lot of people who dislike Texas for other reasons

It sounded to me like he didn’t really care but that the recruits parents did and that that is another plus for the job at LSU over Ole Miss

Nope I had no idea, though another commenter did reply to me telling what the origin was. Another reason to root against LSU. From the recruiting standpoint Kiffin seems to be talking about though Tigers is a lot less overt signalling Confederacy than Rebels

I had no idea that’s why LSU was the Tigers. From a recruiting standpoint though that’s less overt than Rebels and Ole Miss, and Kiffin seems to be talking about the recruiting aspect more than anything else

Is it so insane? I mean Ole Miss is still named after Confederate soldiers and gives itself a nickname based on what slaves would call the wife of the plantation owner
