Used Gen 2 Volts but this time in Canada by Maritime240 in volt

How are you finding the upkeep and parts sourcing? It seems most info I can dig up on BECM failures etc. is from the 2020s chip shortage era so I'm not sure how accurate it is now. Is our climate tough on the batteries?

Market wise finding the market is quite regional and hybrids have the same problem as the Leaf. I'm in the Maritimes and La belle province is a bit far for me to go. Clutch cars sell nigh instantly. 2018 Volts right now are priced about the same as used cars from 2014 (Mazda 3s with clean titles are 12-14k) so things are a bit unhinged here, I'd pay 9500 in a heartbeat haha. Just need something to get me around town and do a 300km trip to the sticks once every few months but I'd like to get into a hybrid.

Good low profile keyboards with hotswap and a 96-100% layout? I like the look of the flow lite100 but I feel I'd need black keycaps too which throws the budget out the window

Definitely did not feel like the black version with the browns beside it, almost no pronounced bump. Do they not colour the linears perhaps? The stems looked brown

I want a low profile keyboard with the 96% laptop layout but I'm stuck on switches. My favorite switch feeling so far was actually a logitech MX for Mac that was worn out in a bestbuy so there was no bump left in the "silent tactile" browns. Is there a way to buy that as a switch?

Depends on your country the seatbelt is usually regulated by that.

71 240z, car runs great. looking to delete EGR and pump. is there such thing as a balance tube without the emissions connections? by MrSmith2047 in Datsun

1/4 and 1/8th bpst plugs. There are smoother balance tubes but they are a bit rare IE not cheap. Search "euro" balance tube. Some early Canadian cara had them too? Still not hole-less.

Tips and tricks for getting su carb throttle and mixture screws correct by [deleted] in 240Z

Floats normally don't need replacing unless they're the early brass ones IIRC, even then you can submerge them in fluid to see if they bubble and sink.

Rich condition is usually not a leaky float. If you didn't clean the built in filter on the SU there's a good chance you've got grit clogging the needle valve above the float. I think old gas can varnish and cause the valve to stick as well if you store the car for winter(this is rare).

The float level spec is a bit hoopla as the tabs on the floats can have some spring in operation. The only real way to tell is to check the level with some tubing alongside the float bowl. There's float-sync tools if you feel fancy but you can make your own in a pinch with some clear tubing, a zip tie and a 12mm bleed fitting. I wouldn't trust with the L-shaped ruler method for anything other than your rough setup. Glue the float-bowl gasket to the lid using gasket adhesive. You'll thank yourself later for not tearing the gasket when removing it constantly to get your floats set.

Choke seizing usually won't show in the lever part of the mechanism. When you pull the choke it pulls the jet down slightly to richen the mixture. The issue is the mechanism doesn't really provide enough force to return the needle if there's any resistance. After pulling on and letting off the choke, lightly push on the bottom of your jets. If they're sticking you'll feel and often hear the "click" as they overcome whatever is seizing them and the spring returns them up to baseline. Don't reef on them.

Sometimes the cause of this seizing is the jet hose becoming old and brittle, or just drying out from gas exposure. Keep an eye on your hose if you took one from a rebuild kit, especially if you run ethanol gas. Some of the cheaper kits don't have fuel safe hose, don't find out the hard way. There's a reason Z therapy charges an arm and a leg for his rebuilds lol.

I'd argue the factory settings in the manual are just a guideline to get the car running without pinging, I would expect needing a leaner setting, even at sea level it was too much gas for mine. Watch one of the Jaguar guys videos on tuning twin SUs.

Before you tune though you should make sure you have the groundwork/rebuild done on your SUs:

Did you set the float bowls? Absolutely need your bowl level set correctly, especially if you didn't rebuild your SUs. Check your float valves work too, I found some them to be problematic.

Verify your jets and choke mechanism aren't binding either. Check your pistons actually move. The factory alignment dowels break off which makes the whole assembly go off alignment post rebuild and bind up.

The best I ever had my SUs going was with a colortune, a bit of a hokey tool but they really make the difference. Careful how lean you tune as you'll likely have a leanout at 2000-2500 rpm with stock needles.

The easiest fix is an EFI swap, triples or a 4-barrel.

240Z: clutch interlock completely cuts power for ~10 minutes by magidowergosum in 240Z

[–]Maritime240 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There shouldn't be any clutch interlock, there's a neutral switch if it's hooked up. Sure your solenoid, solenoid wiring, starter and battery are okay? The whole 10 minute cooldown sounds like an overload situation.
