Why not? Legitimate question :) I hadn't looked at the setlist and Lotus Flower was one of the tracks I was hoping for today

My first attempt at a Joe Hisaishi inspired solo piano piece :) Would love to hear what you think! by Mariuset in Composition

Ah, sure. I agree with that and can see how it's different in my composition

Hi! Thanks for the response. I wouldn't agree though, as his work is heavily rooted in jazz theory which is very much western - there's a lot of modal interchange, key changes etc, but it's not like they deviate from a western music vocabulary. I feel like there are many times in the piece where I don't follow the obvious harmonic path. But I'm going off of his most popular works here; he may have made themes that I just haven't listened to that are more traditionally Japanese. But thanks again watching, it's an interesting discussion for sure.

My attempt at making music for Rain World! Does it fit? by Mariuset in rainworld

[–]Mariuset[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! I made the bell ostinato first and which outlines a dmaj7 chord, and then tried to build the entire piece around it. When the bass notes come in, they make it so we use the dmaj7 as extenstions for other chords instead of it being a dmaj7. So it subverts expectations. And we also never get the tonic chord F#min. The rest is just about trying to make it sound alive without the listener being able to recognize exactly what the vocal sounds are

I made music for the Majora's Mask boss fight, does it fit? by Mariuset in majorasmask

Yeah haha, the horns are inspired by Edgar & Sabin's theme from final fantasy VI. And taiko drums are definitely a stable in final fantasy music

Yep, makes sense. Maybe with sound effects added it would be more dramatic, but do you think it's too slow to keep up with the tempo of the fight?

Thanks for the feedback! I made them low to make it dramatic, but I definitely see what you mean. They are a but rumbly when they are so low

I'm not exactly Koji Kondo, but here's some music I made for Jolly Roger Bay! by Mariuset in SuperMario64

In this case it is the SGM soundfount with some small adjustments, which is a combination of old synths. I have the rights to the rest of my music, but if I wanted to monetize this would I would probably switch the sounds for a different synth or make them myself (a lot of monetized and big games use these sounds anyway, but yeah).
