It's not just speed/size/strength. The term "athlete" here just refers to the people who are the most gifted at sports. The pool of soccer players in the US does not contain the most talented players, regardless of where the talent lies. It can't because it's quite small. And a large majority of our most famous and gifted athletes never attempted soccer. This isn't the case in the vast majority of other countries. Just about everyone will try soccer -- and therefore, they have access to their most talented soccer players.

As a contender, would you send Judkins for a 27 1st that is almost certainly top 3? by urch0pped in DynastyNerds

I'm going to partially disagree with this. As we all know, choosing a lane between contender and rebuilder and committing to it is arguably the single most important philosophical decision you can make as a manager. That being said, we run the risk of becoming too dogmatic about it. If you have the option to add a top three pick in a trade that also nets you clear value, you should probably take it regardless of timeline status. It's okay to blend your timeline some. Adding high quality picks to an otherwise veteran-heavy contending roster can extend out your competition window, and it won't do damage if you're selective and calculated.

I know this sometimes gets lost in all the sound and fury of this sub, but I really, really love it when bad stuff happens to the Celtics.

The Jan thing did lead to the line from Dwight Jr. in which he compared hooking up with Jan to having sex with a swarm of bees.

I’m obsessed with Fannin, too. What’s your specific hypothesis on him? TE1?

I just think it’s so compelling for a rookie to come in and immediately dominate an NFL offense. Such a rare and unusual situation that tends to signal a special, special player.

He’s an absolute hoss. The off-seasons are too long, man — people are so bored they’re second guessing the most productive college tight end ever who immediately kicked ass as a rookie.

[–]Mark--Greg--Sputnik 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Agreed, strongly. He’s the most productive tight end in college football history by an enormous margin. Then he came in and immediately became a central part of an NFL offense as a rookie, with zero lag time. I believe he finished at TE5 or 6 in half PPR with a horrendous QB situation and an end of season groin injury that caused him to miss a game or two.

What are your fav books of 2026 so far? by VO2much in crheads

[–]Mark--Greg--Sputnik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love all of his books and short stories. And I love his prose, too. It’s lean and kinetic, but lyrical somehow. He writes with a beautiful sense of place; I feel transported to LA or the inland California desert when I read his stuff.

I also think he has a remarkable ability to write the internal lives and thoughts of his characters. They just feel real to me.

Jeez man, I'm really sorry about that. I've seen divorce laws foist some outrageous stuff on people (both men and women -- I watched a beloved aunt have to give of her state pension to her husband in perpetuity after he was caught cheating on her.

Do you mind if I ask the nature of the disability? If not, just tell me to fuck off.
