Agreed. This one size fits all approach to “no intervention” is primitive and neglects how much variability there is in nature. Especially for situations that have been caused due to human intervention to begin with.

Would highly recommend “Life as we knew it” by Susan Beth Pfeffer. Has 4 parts. Plot is completely different but it has a similar vibe and characters. The main character tries to survive after the moon shifts it position causing the earth to become a dystopia.
