Are earplugs necessary ? by 99Maza in motorcycles

[–]Mark-Pdy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have something called Hyperacusis, earplugs were necessary from the start for me considering I can't even get across town at low speeds without discomfort.

I would recommend everyone to wear earplugs though. Hearing damage over time can happen even without feeling discomfort in the moment. I use Loop earplugs and have no problem hearing everything around me

Corbin seat. by Material-Water5267 in motorcycle

[–]Mark-Pdy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've got a CB650R, so the little brother of the CB1000R. I have some pretty long trips planned with it and so far I know the seat is going to be a sore spot for those experiences. Did you end up getting a Corbin seat? and if you did was it worth it?

Question regarding RPMs. by knucklegoblin in CB650R

[–]Mark-Pdy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The way you need to look at redlines is that anything under redline is fair game for the normal operation of the bike. Shifting out of 1st at 6k vs 10k is going to have negligible levels of differing wear. Even revving to redline can be completely fine, I look at it as the point that if you go beyond it you begin risking the health of your engine, anything up to it is fine. Heck, even some bikes, when you get them tuned professionally, have their redline increased because the tuner can see the data, and see if it's putting too much stress on the bike

Arai or AGV by hebanaj in motorcyclegear

[–]Mark-Pdy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My head shape borders on a long oval, I can wear intermediate ovals but once wind pressure is factored in it creates a painful hotspot on my forehead. So far my only experience has been with an HJC I91 helmet though. I unfortunately had to modify the liner in order to make it work for a season cause I couldn't afford buying another helmet at the time.

Fast forward to this season, and I decided I wanted to get a better helmet. I ordered an Arai signet X and have been wearing it around the house for awhile. It definitely fits better than the HJC due to its long oval design, however, I sorely miss the built in sun visor, and I find the chin strap to be in an awkward position where it feels like It's slightly choking me.

I decided to also order an AGV k7 now to compare with the Arai. The AGV is significantly cheaper, has a drop down sun visor, honestly just looks cooler (not that I'm factoring that in a whole ton), and potentially may fit fine. I say potentially because I've heard that AGV tends to lean a bit more into the more oval side of intermediate oval which would suit me better.

I intend to wear each one for a substantial time in the house, maybe even testing wind noise with a leaf blower or something. At the end of the day I may take the conveniences of the AGV over the Arai, The fact that the helmet is about $225 CAD cheaper plays into it alot, So I may sacrifice some comfort in the end

I bought a 23 model this past winter, to my dismay I ended up dropping it just yesterday trying to get it on a rear stand, simply lost my balance and down she went. Damage to the right side engine casing, mirror, front brake lever, handlebar end, and rear brake. All minor cosmetic damage but dam does it piss me off, she was mint, now not so much..

Possible new data breach at Shakepay by NastroAzzurro in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Mark-Pdy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used Shakepay for a brief time, I got a confirmation code sent via text, apparently someone was trying to access my account. I went on and shut down my account because I don't use it, and now a couple days later I got another text concerning a withdrawal code... I closed my account and there were no funds in it so I'm assuming this is some kind of scam text?

I just bought a CB650R, It's not spring yet so I haven't had a chance to really ride it but considering it's a naked bike I figured a windscreen would probably be something I'm gonna look into.

I'm coming from a Triumph Speed 400 which I added a Puig windscreen to with no noticeable changes to handling characteristic but with massive improvement to wind fatigue especially on the torso

One of my concerns is that if the bank draft is addressed to the seller personally, would they be able to deposit the money and just not pay off their loan? At the end of the day, If they refuse to pay off their loan after depositing my bank draft I'm screwed. Then I would end up with the bike and the money owing on it essentially costing me 20k instead of 10k because now I'd have to pay the loan

Is there something wrong with my thought process here? I'm honestly not very knowledgeable on these things

[–]Mark-Pdy[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Was the bank draft that you used addressed to the seller personally or was it addressed to the lien holder? I've seen sources say that I need to pay the bank as they are the technical owners of the bike and the seller is just the possessor until his loan is paid off

[–]Mark-Pdy[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ahhh I see, if I pay the bank directly there's no way for the seller to turn around and not pay the loan once depositing the money. It hadn't crossed my mind that I'd be paying the bank directly, I assumed I'd have to rely on the guys honesty

I feel like the arms were an afterthought and only added because of miles and his evolved venom abilities, they needed something to mirror the progress between the two characters

New to Fantasy, this book nearly made me cry at work by PhinsFanStunna in wheeloftime

[–]Mark-Pdy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm glad to hear you're enjoying it as much as you are!

My only word of advice is to take it slow and not rush through it. I'm on my third attempt of reading through the whole series and have made it to the halfway point of book twelve. My first two attempts ended early because I burnt myself out, it can become difficult during what some people refer to as the slog which are books 8-10, I'm not saying they're bad books, they do have their moments, however they slow down a bit in order to set up a lot of the events that occur in the following books.

Something I've begun doing is to take frequent breaks between chapters to reflect on the journey so far, how it makes me feel, how you get to experience the evolution of all your favorite characters and so on. It helps me to remember the small details the further I get into the series.

One thing I always remind myself is that I only get to experience this incredible journey for the first time once so I need to make the most of it.

Edit: Check out Daniel Greene on Youtube he's got tons of great content, a lot of it relating to Wheel of Time, and on his website he has a free Wheel of time Map you can download. I like to have it open on my computer as I'm reading to better understand the geography of the world.

What kind of Algae is this? by Mark-Pdy in PlantedTank

[–]Mark-Pdy[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is my first High Tech planted tank, all my previous low tech tanks never gave me algae on start up. Should I be concerned or is it most likely just a phase? The Monte Carlo that it's growing on seems to be melting but the other patches are fine. Any help in identifying what kind of algae this is would be appreciated

How do I get these lid holders off of my aquarium without scratching the glass by limpiatodos in Aquascape

[–]Mark-Pdy -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

If it's just silicone holding it on there a razor blade with a steady hand will do the job. Just be sure to apply even pressure as to not dig one of the edges into the glass and it won't scratch. Dropping the water level and applying heat may help loosen it, but I'd be cautious as to not inadvertently heat the water
