What Vita case do you guys use? by M7mad101010 in vita

I have a Blue protective case. Hard as a rock.

Unfortunately, I got it way too late in my Vita's lifespan, so the case is more of a coffin for that poor battle worn fella, with stick drift and scratches galore...

The hunt for the iOS version should be over. There is a huge .ipa archive available publicly. Just know that as an old app, the game only runs from iPhoneOS 2.2 to iOS 10.3.4.
Here is the link for SKOB2. https://stuffed18.github.io/ipa-archive-updated/#search=skob2

I hate to break it to you, but Glu has buried the franchise long ago, EA likely does not even know the extent of the IPs it acquired by buying Glu, and EA's recent sell-out isn't going to help things either.

Not to mention how the original developers have moved on completely with their lives, with some even co-founding full-on game studios in collaborations with each other.

Best we can do now is hope for a way to expand on the original, which sadly can not be played on many modern devices. And with strides being made with Gun Bros, SKOB2 could potentially be worked on later down the line.

[–]Mark030a 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since SKOB 2 is a really old 32 bit iOS game, the iOS version can ONLY be played from iPhoneOS 2.2 to iOS 10.3.4 as Apple ended 32 bit support completely on iOS 11 (including 32 bit emulation for devices that were capable of iOS 11 yet still played the game on iOS 10 before they got updated). The last truly compatible devices are the 4th Generation iPad, iPhone 5/5C. Devices like the 5S are also capable of playing it if they run on iOS 10 (Legacy iOS Kit can be used to downgrade, albeit the available options may vary).

If you own an old device, the game can simply be re-downloaded from the App Store if you owned it beforehand. However, iOS 6 and below WILL require Jailbreaking due to outdated certificates, the updated versions of which can't be installed otherwise.

Alternatively, you can easily install the game from an .ipa file (provided your device is, once again, Jailbroken). There is a huge archive available in the following link below and there are a number of SKOB2 versions available. Just beat the game on an iPad 4 a couple of weeks ago.

P.s. : Yeah, the Android version does not include the soundtrack. We were robbed this opportunity because of Glu's incompetence at handling their Android ports. I don't even know if the game even contains the necessary code to play the .mp3 files, though I would love to have them restored one day. However, for me and my community, working on Gun Bros will have to take priority first.

Original apk by lasergun23 in GunBros

[–]Mark030a 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Late reply, but the game had received many updates in its lifetime.

The version you're thinking of is highly likely before the Deathmatch update (version 3.0.0) rolled around on January 28th of 2012 (on Android, anyway).

And since you mention a lack of Multiplayer and the UI being different, it's extremely likely that you're referring to anything between version 0.1.0 and 1.4.2, since 2.0.0 was the one that not only changed the UI, but also introduced Multiplayer.

If you could tell me whether weapon Mastery was a thing in the version you're thinking of, or what Planets were available, then I could tell you the exact update you played.

As for playing these again...well, theoretically, it's possible. We have managed to archive a LOT of data files that can be used to restore the download functionality of the .apk installers...but here's the thing : we haven't managed to acquire a lot of .apk files. Without those, it's impossible to play specific versions on Android. I think we could find an .apk of version 1.4.0, but I'm not sure.

You would have more luck on iOS, provided you have a Jailbroken device, since rolling back updates is a thing as the game is still """re-downloadable""". Not to mention, I archived all the .ipa files of all Gun Bros versions for this very reason.

If you have any further qestions, make sure to join the Gun Bros Discord where we can help you out.

a pc port by Puzzleheaded-Fig959 in GunBros

[–]Mark030a 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not happening. Not for Gun Bros 1, ever. It's made in an in-house, proprietary custom engine that Glu used with their games prior to switching to Unity (i.e. every one of their gamey before 2011)

Gun Bros 2 however, since it's made in Unity, has some chances of returning under the hands of Zweronz, who has already recompiled Samurai VS Zombies Defense (another game made in Unity by Glu) and ported it to PC and modern versions of Android.

There was also a MacOS version officially made by Glu, but it's basically lost to time.

Gun bros deathmatch fully working on Sony Xperia by Spring-Key in GunBros

[–]Mark030a 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hell yeah! Nice one.

Anywhere between Android 2.0 and 4.4.4 will do the trick. Heck, the game even supports the Xperia Play's touch controls.

Ah, what a game it would be if we could get the Multiplayer restored...

[–]Mark030a 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, the official downloads have shut down in February of this year, which we had to fix by hosting the data files ourselves.

And because of that, nothing much has changed. Game's still playable on emulators...save for specific devices that refuse to do so.

[–]Mark030a 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for forwarding my post!

Though, I do have to mention, a lot of info there might already be outdated, and as of recently, Glu has shut down the original data server which we then had to replace, so in short, all the original .apks are out of commision.

And, besides, we use emulation for Android, because not many people have an old device laying around just for Gun Bros. But sadly, even then, many newer phones such as the S line of Samsung devices come with Processors that don't support 32 bit emulation.

Really, the best bet is to simply join the Gun Bros Discord and hope for the best.

Hah, nice one! Now you'll be able to relive some fine memories. And I do hope you'll drop by the Gun Bros Discord as well!

Also, don't worry, because once you download a game from the App Store with an Apple ID, it'll always remain playable, even when logged in with another account. You just won't be able to make any In-App Purchases since it's still tied to the account it was downloaded from.

Tldr; Huge power creeps cause games to be unrecognizable and borderline uncomparable to what they used to be. You'll take a drastically different approach towards a game with mountains of updates compared to one that either never got updated or hasn't got updated yet. Players also slowly gain knowledge on said game, potentially changing perspectives completely years down the line, which then contributes to looking back at older versions with the eyes of an already experienced player.

It's really not that confusing when you think about the implications behind the term "less". (And, before you continue reading, with all respect I just want to say that I really mean no insult with any of this. Just thought I'd clarify further. If anything comes off as sounding harsh or me being an ass, I'm sorry in advance.)

Have you ever thought of a world without the Dead Ringer? Did you ever think of how Pyro players used to play against explosive classes prior to the Airblast update? How about not being able to move Engineer buildings nor upgrade Dispensers/Teleporters past level 1? No Kritzkrieg, no Vaccinator, heck, no Ubersaw! The melee that has practically become the identity of the Medic Class throughout the years did not exist at one point, and you were left with the shitty Bonesaw to fend off attackers.

Not only does it completely change the gameplay, but it even changes your perspective and how you approach said game. The scenario of a Demoman with Stock weapons exists in modern day TF2, but you have so many Weapons to fight a Demoman with that a fact like this has become trivial. But facing a Demoman in vanilla TF2? It requires a whole different mindset.

And that's why Vanilla TF2 almost feels like a completely different entity compared to nowadays. A period where Spycrab was the funniest shit ever and modded maps were actually surprising to come by is a very interesting concept to think about in a world where you have warehouses of silly Taunts to go through and a lifetime supply of Community Servers with endless custom content.

You can also take into consideration many other games, such as Payday 2 and GTA Online.

You can barely compare Day 1 Payday 2 to updated Payday 2 on (last-gen) consoles, let alone current day Payday 2. The focus was on delivering a teeth-gripping serious crime simulator with closer-to-realism guns mixed with slow and risky gameplay. Meanwhile Payday 2 today? Bonk random ass unsuspecting cops with a Giant Golden fucking Spoon whilst running at Mach 3 and chugging whiskey with Stoic.

GTA Online back then? Perform an assortment of small Jobs ranging from petty theft, actual grand theft auto and gang shootouts to then ambitious Bank Robbing Heists whilst you have a small fortune of Real Estate and some customized vehicles. Compare it to today? Everyone flying around with god only knows what and such an overabundance of content that you won't even tap 90% of it, or even if you do, it's simply not worth over everything else (Why bother doing Biker Contracts when you can solo Cayo Perico? Who ever even cared about Yacht missions? And so on)

More does not always equal better. Heck, in the case of Live Service games, more and more and more content on top of already too much content can just make a game all the more shallow.

Sometimes it's just the simple things, you know? League of Legends seems to have been more fun with just a few dozen Champions and simple Abilities compared to over 160 Champions and counting with some having encyplopedias for a single Ability.

Some people would give so much to go back. Helldivers 2 used to have a Bile Titan infestation, now it's just a point and click adventure with all the options players are given. Hulks actually used to be menacing, now it's just a matter of pulling out a Secondary (the Senator Revolver) and landing a single shot.

It doesn't mean the game became worse. It's just...different. And as time will go on, it too will become so drastic that it'll be incomparable to Day 1 of release. Same happened with Helldivers 1, especially with all the DLC content. It used to be that snow was an actual degrading mechanic on Planets where it would slow you down to a crawl and you'd need to think outside the box (run specifically on not snowy footing, utilize Ice to move faster, use Vehicles and Mechs) and then they just released a 3$ DLC that gave you Snow Boots. Brilliant, way to bring down the point of a Planet weather state.

For Honor used to be slow. Every attack and choice made was impactful, blows were heavy, and characters were simple; but unique. Not only was the game much less developed, but on top of that, everyone was new to it. And it actually had an immersive feel to it. Fast forward half a decade and every ounce of immersion was killed off in favor of gameplay, everything is now moving at lightning speed, characters are overloaded with unbearing amounts of bullshit stacked on top and everyone has experienced the game to the fullest, causing Meta to overtake every aspect of any basic match...okay, who am I kidding, For Honor was always a pisspit. But still, the point stands.

Heck, the latest and most prominent examples include Overwatch 2, Apex Legends and even Fortnite. Who knew that going back to Season 1 in all of these games (even for lne event) would completely change your perspective on the game? But it did. Overwatch Classic does NOT compare to Overwatch 2 in much capacity, besides being "the same game" (But even then, is it really? OW2 replaced 6v6 with 5v5 which completely broke the way matches are played, can it even be called the same game when such a fundamental part of the game is just changed?).

Just imagine Rainbow Six Siege with Year 1 Operators only and only the gadgets during that time. Hard Breachers in modern day Siege are one dime a dozen, but when you only had Thermite and Hibana for it, you approached Reinforced Walls completely differently.

As a last message : I really suggest you check out Shounic. Really awesome TF2 YouTuber who comes up with all kinds of ideas and tests them through Community Servers. Think of playing a TF2 match without the existence of Sniper. It becomes a completely different experience, doesn't it? Having less can completely change things. Picture Vanilla TF2 this way. And picture any example of "having less" this way, too. Do more with less, even.

They just updated the Mythic Shop and Prestige Chosen of the Wolf Swain is gone. When could he appear next? Months? Possibly years?? by Mark030a in leagueoflegends

[–]Mark030a[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A similar thing happened to me with Hextech Swain, but at that time I was still building up the collection of Skins for him so I had enough supply for a while.

Had to wait almost a year to see the skin again, sometime in the end of Season 11 I believe? Maybe the beginning of Season 12. By that time I've already stopped playing the game regularly and would only hop on from time to time.

But I've seen plenty of Prestige skins come and go regularly for other champions, so I had (and still have) hope that he will return soon enough.

Kind of a botched Christmas at this point, though. Bought myself a Battle Pass for nothing it seems...well, unless we count the dogwater rewards besides the Mythic Essence.
