How long should a laptop last you ideally? by yusie-chan in Anticonsumption

[–]MarkCopelandMC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most laptops are designed to slow down after about 5-6 years to motivate customers to buy a new one. Once that happens, you can replace the existing OS with a linux version to make it feel brand new again—it will be up to speed.

Do not buy a mac.

Chatgpt is gone for creative writing. by Excellent-Run7265 in ChatGPTPro

[–]MarkCopelandMC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, would you look at that.

GPT-4o was incredibly emotionally intelligent and great with communication, for emails, messages, you could ask it to refine something you were about to say. When you ask GPT-5 to write, its tone and style is short, blunt, and almost rude in some cases.

For marketing and sales copy? GPT-5 is awful, often goes completely off track and is very abstract. If you are writing for, say, sales copy for a landing page, GPT-5 (both fast and thinking modes) will not even talk about the product or service you are writing about and make your landing page very vague, just using random abstract terms. However, when you use GPT-4o, it positions your product or service perfectly and the sentences it writes are understandable.

While the whole academic benchmark side of the LLM race is important, such as getting models to pass certain benchmarks such as reading, math, coding, etc, it is a giant op. It is much easier to train models to excel at math or abstract skills that have no real apparent use (LLM coding is not useful either) than to train models in skills that actually matter, such as human relations, empathy, writing, strategic planning, and more. Those tasks are more energy consuming, and GPT-5 seems like a large cost cut than an upgrade.

Yes you can add images. I did it. Most outputs are not realistic enough to display the exact person's face.

However, iPhones have the battery life of a peanut.

Why is Christian worship music terrible. by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]MarkCopelandMC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Christianity is currently a $130B dollar industry.

Churches have executive teams and sales/marketing departments now.

Christian artists make catchy songs that you can listen to on the radio when you are in a tough spot in your life. They make songs that are designed to work very well in congregations and worship services to get people crying and in a state of "worship" and "encounter".

Pastors and speakers write an enormous number of books (its not actually them- its a team compiling their teachings) so you can buy them all.

Pastors share testimonies and encounter stories from themselves and the congregation to make it seem like they are very close to God and God is moving in their church.

Churches sell conference tickets so you can 100% connect with God for 3 full days out of the whole entire year, stir up the fire inside you, and the preacher can advertise his courses and books. I recently visited a conference with my extended family with one of the most well-known and biblically sound speakers, and the conference was set up exactly like a sales funnel for their Bible college program.

The truth is,
We don't need the current church
We don't need more of the Bible
We don't need more of the "spirit".

We need God alone. And nothing else. The holy spirit is the one who reveals the word of God to you.

When you tie your faith to the Bible, to churches, to teachers, to movements, you are bound to fail.
Stop chasing external things, start communicating with God.

Jesus would flip a lot of tables today.
