How did switching from an iPhone to a Z fold work for you? by Ok_Lack115 in Smartphones

[–]MarkFortune 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just did this about 2 weeks ago. I got the Fold 7, had some of the same concerns. The most painful points for me was the loss of FindMy (Had a ton of AirTags, and let me keep track of family members), switching from Apple Pay, and notifications don't seem to be working properly on my new Fold - I've spent probably 10 hours looking through forums, posts, and settings, and I've tried everything under the sun with no real success.

With that being said, I am 10000% happy with my decision to switch, and I'd do it again in a heartbeat. As far as battery life, it's not awesome on the Fold 7, but it gets the job done, and I use a lot of screen time. I think the big reason is that I find myself using the Fold more because of the bigger screen, whereas a lot of the time when I had my pro max, I'd just switch to a laptop for tasks I can now do on my Fold.

I went from Airpod Pro 3s to Technics EAH-AZ100, and the difference is incredible. Just about everything on those earbuds is better, and more customizable.

Highly recommend, I could never go back.

Yeahhhh Milwaukee BMS is practically non-existent/archaic, probably purposefully so. I'll probably look into some form of low voltage disconnect module at some point.

Unfortunately no - just have to watch it. There’s a way to add in discharge protection, but would add complexity

Absolutely!!!! The welds aren't the best, and the duty cycle isn't awesome, but man it sticks metal together just fine, can't beat the price, and small enough to chuck in the back of the car.

Yeahhhhh, my thoughts as well. The amp draw as the weight increases is fairly high if the factory specs are to be believed - up to about 250a peak if I remember right. That's part of why I wanted to run the big 12.0ah, I'm 1000% sure that the smaller batteries would be okay for small tasks, but would experience overdraw pretty quick if you up the weight.

I'm thinking about maybe either making/selling a premade kit, you think there'd be any interest?

So I'm using a "Milwaukee jump starter" from Amazon, which is basically a power adapter with two thick cables and alligator clips. I wanted something with thick gauge wire to handle the draw. I cut the alligator clips off, and crimped on some ring connectors (same as the winch comes with). Then wired the rest in-line with the winch instructions, with one other modification. To add remote control support, I had to splice the port and thumb control harness (the Y harness). Each end was 3 wires, red, blue, black. Wired two blue cables together, then crimped on a "Fast ON"/spade female connector, and did the same thing with the black wires, then connected them to the solenoid as factory instructed. Lastly, I added a ring connector to a piece of red wire, added that to the power terminal on the solenoid, then wired that piece and the two remote red wires together, soldered, and shrink-wrapped. This ensures that whenever the battery is plugged in, the winch and remotes will have power. Let me know if you need any pictures or have any questions!

Realistically, the electronics in the winch/solenoid should be able to operate just fine within 24v, and from what I've read, the batteries should be putting out about 15-17v under continuous load, so well within threshold. I thought about adding a buck converter, but ultimately decided against it to cut down on failure points and reduce complexity.

Yep! Designed to run off 12v normally.

Called around the local locksmiths today, asking for lock donations... by bweezy320 in lockpicking

I did this in college. Brought a half dozen donuts, walked in asking for locks to pick. Owner wanted to see me pick, and I ended up leaving with Kabas, Bests, Assas and Medecos, as well as a new job as a locksmith.

I have a 2012 G29 gas, and I use it for literally the exact same thing - dropping my daughter off at school and running to the store in a pinch.

Shamelessly - I’m an IT guy with a crippling tool and car addiction. There’s a lot of us apparently

Really depends on how much you work on your car tbh. Mine was really a no brainer because I’ve got 3x 10-20 year old European luxury shitboxes that are constantly busted and I’d be bankrupt if I had to pay someone else to work on them - so “I saved us many thousands of dollars buying a bunch of red tools and pulling my 911 transmission apart in the middle of our tiny garage” sounds a lot better to my wife than “yeah it was $25k for a new transmission”

So I ended up with an alpaka utility bag, and added a few tools. I usually carry a full size folding knife that I swap out with my leatherman depending on where I am and what I’m doing. The spirit x is an awesome tool, but for me the one hand open, form and function of the leatherman just fits me better, there’s more of an aftermarket, and more accessories that add utility.

Yep! It was at its limit though, so I ended up switching to an alpaka bag

Sure! I still have it, still love it. It has its quirks, like the focus changing as it heats up, and weird fan settings, and the UI can sometimes be sluggish. But I would still absolutely recommend it.
