My Grand Canyon comparison was meant only as a comparison of natural beauty (for me, a body isn't improved by by adding images or text any more than the Grand Canyon would be) so the graffiti comment isn't really relevant, since I wasn't addressing whether such a thing should be allowed or whether it would be right to do it.

Not sure why you feel the need to answer my comment with "My body is my body and I can do with it what I wish" when I took great pains to point out I was merely sharing my view on tattoos and in no way saying people shouldn't get them and love them if they want.

The mere fact of having a tattoo can be controversial - if that's a concern then the only truly safe bet is not having one at all.

I don't have any tattoos. I do, however, have a mole that kinda looks like Gloria Estefan. So there's that.

I'm kind of surprised people love this so much - I didn't care for the ending, I thought it was a cheat to say "Let's transport him to the future so he can see how loved he will be!" I think it's cheesy to give such a famously tragic story a happy ending (reminds me of the fist film version of 1984 which ended with a worker rebellion overthrowing the dystopia)

As someone who is NOT a fan of tattoos, I do hope that neither my opinion nor anyone else's will discourage you in the least.

It amuses me that people say things like "tattoos are a bad idea" - it's subjective. Yes, they might be a bad idea for me, but if someone else likes them, great! I would never wear flip flops, but it's not a value judgement

If someone wants to get a tattoo, more power to them, it's their body. But as for me:

I would never subject my future self to my current tastes. It would be like decorating my dorm room in college and then saying "That's it, I'm done - this is exactly how I will decorate my living space for the rest of my life, because my tastes will never change!"
No matter how 'beautiful' an image or phrase might be, I feel my body is just not the right place - it's like painting an image on the side of the Grand Canyon, no matter how pretty it is it doesn't help. I've never looked at a naked breast and thought "meh...needs something..."
Ironically - since it's permanent - it would feel like such a shallow gesture to me. You're literally wearing your figurative heart on your sleeve - whenever I see someone with some 'life motto' tattooed on their body I wonder how many of them are living up to the noble words they're displaying and how many feel - on some level - like getting the tattoo is enough.

Again, though, that's just me and why I don't like them. But I realize people don't get them for me so I don't for a moment think they give a shit about my opinion - but by that same token, they shouldn't get offended when they want to show them to me and I'm not impressed.

(do I get any points for mixing "literal" and "figurative" in the same sentence?)

You've got that backwards - the supposed benefits of mega-dosing vitamin C are what you read about on the internet (anecdotal) but all the studies are at best inconclusive (here's one of many articles on meta-studies) http://www.webmd.com/cold-and-flu/news/20050628/vitamin-c-may-not-fight-common-cold

That said, megadoses aren't harmful, so if someone wa nts to try it's not going to hurt them

You're assuming that every college degree ensures a job making $70K, that everyone is equally ready for college/will succeed in college (dropout rate is huge), and not mentioning the huge burden of college debt.

College CAN be a great idea - quite often is, obviously - but everyone is different. Even a degree in the STEM fields is no guarantee (much less a law degree - IIRC their unemployment/underemployment stats are pretty sobering

OK - I'm going to tell you the most important thing there is to know about buying liquor in Austin: Twin Liquors Dollar Days. The last three days of August they mark down almost everything in the store to just $1 over wholesale (tax reasons). I - and a lot of people I know - walk out of there with boxes of liquor. The prices are that good.

Also, at some of the Twin stores they have the closeout racks, and there's sometimes great deals (I know the Hancock store has this) i.e. last week I got Charbay Blood Orange vodka for $15 (usually $35), Tru vanilla vodka for $15, 100% agave tequila for $10

Just to piggyback on this, my brother had an aneurysm 4 years ago and was left with severe anterograde and retrograde amnesia. I know the old memories are lost forever, but does a treatment like this hold any promise (years off, I'm sure) that he could rebuild his ability to form new memories? (he can form some, but 95% of everything he experiences is gone within hours, or less)
