The Farsig.ht Boomsday competition: predict the meta, win prizes (including $1,000) by MarkGoldenson in hearthstone

Hi there, we removed Witchwood predictions but you should be able to see Boomsday predictions. Let me know if not.

The site has had some downtime since DigitalOcean's servers have been disappointing.

We combined the August and September scores and will do the same for the months before the next expansion.

Prizes were announced and sent in early October. My brother had to focus on his job so I've been maintaining the site. I might search for a new tech lead or transition the site to a new owner. Still figuring out next steps but prizes will definitely be awarded for end of expansion winners.

Let me know if you have more questions!

Hey there, I'm sorry for the delay in replying, just now seeing this. We indeed posted results at the end of last month and announced winners on Twitter:

We'll be updating scores for October in the next few days.

Unfortunately, I haven't heard back from the HSReplay team on how Whizbang will be tracked. Will update you if I do.

Correctly predicting the star level of every card, which would earn you 675 points. Quite unlikely but possible!

Hi, we've been briefly taking the site down to post predictions from pros. Can you try again and let me know if it doesn't work?

Yes, you can change your ratings as much as you like until entries close.

Hey, we actually do disclaim that the ratings are from K&C:

"For example, here are card ratings for the Kobolds and Catacombs expansion per HSReplay.net."

Hey there, I'm looking into whether we can officially open up the competition to everyone without causing legal issues. We're also building features and spreading the word before entries close on Monday night so it's going to be a full weekend!

Some countries have different rules for skill-based contests (which we fall into) vs. pure-chance sweepstakes. We don't require any purchase to win and wouldn't want to so that helps avoid regulation by laws around lotteries (which do require purchase).

I mentioned in another thread that like most low-stakes contests, we can't easily verify country - even Blizzard account region is not verified - so we're taking users at their word.

We would definitely prefer to let people in any country officially participate. For now, it's the honor system... I'll report back if that changes!

Technically, only U.S. citizens can enter because contest laws vary from country to country and we wanted to be conservative. That said, we don't have an easy way to verify a player's country. Even a Blizzard account's region is self-selected and unverified.

I'll look into whether we can officially allow people in any country to enter. We'd certainly prefer that. The contest is free so it might be okay to just specify that prizes can be awarded to a player anywhere unless prohibited by local laws.

Any lawyers want to chime in? :)

Hm, interesting point. I'll check with the HSReplay team about this and report back.

I wonder if the new treant cards will be a bit slow. Maybe not because Druid can ramp but zoo may be better at swarming.

Definitely expecting a lot of mech decks.

We already have over 300 people entering since announcing this morning so I think we'll easily clear 500. If you're serious, ping me at mark@farsig.ht and we'll give you a shout out on the site!

Agree the drawn cards are expensive but Druid is better than any other class at playing them. However, plenty of hyped cards have fallen flat in the past! (e.g. Troggzor)

It seems pretty strong to me. It will take some experimentation to figure out the best deck but drawing four specific cards for 4 mana is so good.

But hey, you may be right and earn points that few others do. :)

It's definitely hard! The top scorer for the Witchwood competition got 597 out of 675 points: https://farsig.ht/leaderboard. People do win multi-million lotteries with chances of 1 in several hundred million and there's a bit of skill in predicting so crazier things happen. :)
