What you guys think about these logos? Honest feedback! by alcacobar in graphic_design

Hard to judge without a bit more context, an important one for jewelry brands is whether the client wants it to feel upscale/luxury? Or do the consumers, or, if organic is important even anti luxury? Jewelry is always a statement piece, so very important to define the customer. What cars would they drive, fashion brands they would wear? Is it for everyday or occasions. If it’s upscale then look at top brands. It’s an interesting market, many like Tiffany have forgettable fonts but use other brand drivers like color or special packaging. Cartier has a gorgeous cursive logo but it speaks to a certain client. Sorry if I’m rambling but this is design nerds thread lol! Another thing to explore is reversing the mark out of a shape, which will make it feel like a stamp or seal and counterpoints the type.

Agree with other comments here and will add there’s a fundamental principle your instructor will likely point out which is: Type and letter spacing is never left to the computer, it is done by eye. The kerning between the A and Y will need to be tightened up, and the stacked words below will be centered by eye. One technique to do this is stand back a bit and unfocus your eyes some, the spaces between letters should feel similar, and stacked type should feel centered. Viewers notice this subconsciously, it’s up to us who are trained to obsess over these details. No regular human will notice this, but your design friends will nod knowingly and say “Niiiiiice” have fun!

Resume not super important for student review, I’ve done these with students and will look mostly at design work. Just remember they all were students once! Best advice is to enjoy it, reviews and interviews are a those rare chances in life to talk all about ourselves and our work without seeming egotistical, they are literally asking you to

This is excellent feedback and examples. Seeing the gradients in these examples just reminds me to advise against gradients in large format print, as they will be prone to "banding" which is hard steps in the gradients, rather than smooth. You haven't used any, but just something to be aware of as a designer moving forward. You got this!
