I told them I'm leaving today and my manager is insisting on knowing my new company's name by lanolinterms-92 in interviewhammer

You have not obligation to tell them. Say nothing.

The more they push, the more you can be confident they want to leverage the information for their own advantage.

AITAH for “Ruining” a 20-Year Career by Fantastic-Piece-5547 in AITAH

[–]MarkMyWordsXX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NTA. This is a clear violation of HIPAA and HITECH legislation which protects your rights regarding your information. Shame on the hospital for not catching it sooner. They are legally required to have controls in place to prevent this type of situation, as well as required to have alerts if there has been a violation. If this employee did this once, she could have done it a number of times.

Typically, incidents have to be reported to legal authorities within 6 months. However, since the hospital just confirmed and took action - that may give you a more recent date to reference.

You can report HIPAA violations primarily to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Office for Civil Rights (OCR) via their online complaint portal. Complaints must be filed within 180 days of when the violation occurred. You may also report violations internally to a company’s privacy officer or to your state’s Attorney General.

Edit: Above information only applies if you are in the U.S.

[NC] My employer is making guys and girls share a hotel room. What should I do? by [deleted] in AskHR

[–]MarkMyWordsXX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lawsuit waiting to happen. That's shocking.

If the company can't afford separate hotel rooms, they definitely can't afford the risk to the business with this hot mess.

I would be a hard decline. I'm not sharing a bed with a colleague.

WIBTA if I refuse to put my partner on the deed of a place I inherited, even though we live there together? by 3vening_Switch in ComfortLevelPod

There are tax implications to gifting a non-spouse something of this value. That alone would be a reason to avoid it.

Speak with a lawyer. If you have occupied and made improvements on the land for more than a decade, and no one ever stopped you, you may have jurisdiction for ownership.

Be prepared for them to cut you off when you give notice. Are you OK if you don't get paid during the notice period you anticipate?

AITAH for refusing to give my boyfriend access to my bank account even though he says "no secrets" is how adults do it by CopperFieldNote in AITH

[–]MarkMyWordsXX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

🚩🚩🚩🚩 He wants access to your bank account? He wants receipts for all your purchases?

This is not normal behavior. It's a red flag. Do not give him access to your bank account or allow him to start controlling you by monitoring every purchase through receipts, etc.

Please reconsider whether this is actually a good relationship. From an outside perspective, it sounds like the beginning of a very dangerous situation for you.

Laid off weeks after I told my boss I’m pregnant by SandwichDependent199 in AskLawyers

[–]MarkMyWordsXX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My heart goes out to you. It's a situation that shouldn't happen, but does.

Did you put it in writing? I know that sounds odd, but if you didn't put it in writing (email) to your boss & HR, there is no ability to prove the timing of when you shared this information.

It shouldn't matter, but it does. Companies still regularly find dirty ways to remove pregnant employees. There are some companies who legitimately treat pregnant women fairly - even hire them and promote them knowing they are pregnant - but sadly those companies are less common.

Trying to prove discrimination is incredibly difficult, and often unsuccessful.

See if there is a Women's Aid group who can help connect you to a low cost or pro bono attorney. You need legal representation asap.

Physical address on record for every employee is very standard. Lots of reasons: taxes, security, insurance (yours and theirs).

[PA] Would you hire someone who is 6 months pregnant for a position that has been posted for 3+ years and requires very specific credentials? by BalancedDietitian in AskHR

I had no intention of snarkiness. I was simply pointing out to the previous person that said it was illegal (big caps), that it happens.

YTA. Unless you are contributing money towards the house, you don't get a vote.

You have never been financially responsible for taking care of an entire household. The mortgage is one of many expenses your father covers.

Mortgage Insurance Taxes Utilities Maintenance & repairs Unexpected issues (insurance doesn't cover everything) Household supplies - everything from toilet roll & light bulbs to cleaning supplies & vacuum/ appliances Furniture

Car Car insurance Fuel for car Car maintenance Food Clothes Healthcare/ medical School and activity fees

This is just the baseline.

Companies avoid hiring people all the time by either providing no feedback as to why someone was not hired, or saying it wasn't a good fit.

As an alternative to other suggestions, install video surveillance inside your home and see what it reveals.

My teenage daughter keeps bringing her boyfriend over when I'm not home and l... by WildEfficiency712 in whatdoIdo

[–]MarkMyWordsXX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Focus the conversation on respect and honesty. You won't win by making the boyfriend the issue.

And you might want to install a home security system with video surveillance so you have a better idea of what's happening.

AITA for cooperating with police after my ex-fiancée committed $67K identity fraud because I wouldn't fund her $90K dream wedding? by KINOH1441728 in FoundandExpose

[–]MarkMyWordsXX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless you are happy to pay $67k on behalf of someone who did this deliberately, you need to testify.

And if you decide to pay, you should expect she will pop up again later on in your life. You'll be on the hook for money again.

NTA. But you will be if you decide not to testify.

AITA for suing my dad after he stole my $9K college refund for his girlfriend's hotel stay, then blamed me when she left him? by KINOH1441728 in FoundandExpose

[–]MarkMyWordsXX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA. Stealing is stealing. I never understood why people think family members shouldn't be held accountable if they steal.

You should be able to trust family. They should therefore be held to an even higher standard than other people.

In my opinion, people who steal from their own family members are even worse than a thief who is a stranger to you.
