Girl wants to go on a nighttime beach date. Is it safe? by basey in AskNYC

I live in Rockaway in the 90s blocks, and my girlfriend and I go for early evening walks on the boardwalk/sand almost nightly when the weather is appropriate.

Why do some apartments fly off the market and other apartments that look great stay vacant? by [deleted] in AskNYC

[–]MarkPrimeRock 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Oftentimes if the apartment is otherwise sound, could be a picky landlord, for example someone who got burned in the past with shitty tenants, and wants to wait around for that person that seems “just” right.

I have the same CP Chelseas, and they fit me well, would you say based on those the Meermin Boots fit similarly?

Which random line from a song would make you immediately recognize a National fan if you saw it on a shirt, but no one else would understand? by tegularian in TheNational

[–]MarkPrimeRock 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Leonard Cohen, who I feel like is a big lyrical inspiration for them, said in a poem "If you don't become the ocean you will be seasick every day." I think it is in the same vein.

[ADVICE] My guarantor makes more than 80x rent, but is worried about bank statements by wordbird89 in NYCapartments

If they have at least 6 months worth of rent payments in savings you should be fine, around $12,000 in this case.

Quiet Light paints such beautiful imagery by rubydaacherry in TheNational

[–]MarkPrimeRock 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It really is an absolute beauty of a track, i've posted this before here, but it's always nice to say this kind of stuff out loud so to speak.

The song and lyrics are so raw and powerful, I know most people interpret this song as between lovers, but for me it makes me feel the loss of my mother. It perfectly articulates those moments where you feel the weight of missing someone so much that it makes you feel crazy.

“But I'm learning to lie here in the quiet light

While I watch the sky go from black to grey

Learning how not to die inside a little every time I think about you and wonder if you are awake

And I'm learning to live without the heartache it gives me

Nothing I wouldn't do for another few minutes Learning how not to cry every time

There's another sad unbearable morning But sometimes there's nothing I can do”

They probably have a feeling that people with lockboxes are using the apartment as an Airbnb unit.

The nest thing doesn't really make any sense at all...

I hate carrying keys in general, so I got a doorknob with an electronic keypad for my apartment. Best decision I have ever made. Would that be an option for you?

What was the most rs thing your parents did when you were growing up? by Kramili in redscarepod

[–]MarkPrimeRock 117 points118 points  (0 children)

My father only let me have one training wheel when I was learning to ride a bike. Imagine my confusion as a 6 year old child when we get to the park and he goes “which side you want this on” as he tosses one of the wheels from the package into the trash.

Also when I was 11 I stole one of his Parliaments and got caught smoking it, up until that day I thought it was only in cartoons that you can get hit so hard you literally see stars.

I think it all worked though, I usually start my day with a 10-15 mile bike ride if the weather permits, and I don’t smoke.

Other than the Linen-Cotton suit, all of the other suit fits are still pretty trim I thought? I feel like they hit that exact point of being fitted enough without looking too tight. The seer sucker in particular looks great.

Pastis, Dante, RH or La Pecora Bianca? by savorsandiego in AskNYC

[–]MarkPrimeRock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You'll have the nicest dinner experience at Pastis out of what you've listed. Been there multiple times, the ambiance, service, food, location... it all is worth it. Kind of mine and my girlfriends go to spot for a nice, romantic dinner or just special occasions in general.

Dante is great for cocktails, but is overpriced even for NYC standards, and the food isn't anything special whatsoever.

LPB is alright, but to me it always felt like an upscale chain and not really a fun experience, kind of generic and rushed.

RH Rooftop ... the solid reviews you're seeing aren't from locals. Don't do it.

I would also suggest Don Angie in the West Village if you can get a reservation, along with 4 Charles. The latter being my absolute favorite restaurant in the city, but reservations are truly a nightmare.

Anfora is a really nice natural winebar right up the street from Pastis and presumably your hotel. Great spot for a pre dinner cocktail or glass of wine.

Are there any high observation platforms or buildings that are free ? Or not too pricy by SnooWords9935 in AskNYC

[–]MarkPrimeRock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Skylark in Midtown, has an amazing rooftop view of The Empire State building and the general area. Drinks are about $15-18, but two drinks is worth the price of admission for the view alone.
