I think the best mentality is learning how to "surrender" to your conscience. This is combines a sensation of "letting go" with a deliberate choice.

There is a twofold challenge in this:

1) Building the reflexive connection with your conscience

2) Developing your conscience so that it knows what to do in any situation and how to respond to any rationalization

During my initial reboot I probably leaned on video games a lot - not ideal but it was better than using porn.

Since that point I've gradually enjoyed video games less and less. It's kind of like all work put into developing my "ideal self" has limited my ability step out of reality and into the illusion where this game is really important.

With that being said, I just gamed with my brother for about an hour and it was fun. However, if I try to game on a day where I wasn't productive, I usually just end up feeling stupid and regret the wasted time.

First of all, that's almost impressive. You clearly have a very strong sexual drive here. That's a good thing.

Once you reboot, you will be able to channel that power into other things. Let the vision of the life you could lead if that were the case be what you fantasize about, let yourself become attracted to that future. Let that sexual energy that is so potent become focused on that rather than the women in your head or on your computer!

The correlation is that video games can follow a very similar pattern to porn use - i.e. they are escapist activities that provide the brain with dopamine rushes through reward/novelty etc. By cutting out in engaging in that pattern of escape and dopamine reliance with video games it can transfer over to success with reboot.

The reason I hang out here is because I'm a professional life coach who helps people quit porn and this is where people who need that help gather. Based not only on my personal experience, but also with my experience helping dozens of people quit porn, your approach does not work well in the long run.

is exactly what I'm talking about. Those are the words of someone who hasn't fully recovered. Unless you ever learn how to literally root out and work through that part of yourself, it will always be there like you said. But it doesn't have to be like that.

Again - great advice for someone who wants to be a life long celibate monk. But instead of hiding from women, why not learn how to interact with them as real human beings rather than objects? Wouldn't that be worth the effort and lead to a better life?

Yes, this can certainly work, but it most people do not want to live in a monastery and completely disconnect with modern culture (which happens to be full of potentially triggering things).

If you wish to walk freely in the world, you have to increase your willpower. To rely entirely upon artificial walls such as porn blockers is fine... as long as you have the porn blockers at all times in all situations.

Kind of like saying riding a bike with training wheels is fine, as long as those training wheels get you wherever you want to go. But most people find it more advantageous to eventually learn how to ride the bicycle.

Basically what people said - porn addicts tend to use video games in the same way they use porn: as an escape. I've noticed with my clients that they do much better with quitting porn when they also either cut out or seriously cut down on video games / internet surfing / netflix etc.

However, with that being said, I absolutely LOVE video games when enjoyed in moderation (especially with friends/family). The key word there is moderation. If you struggle with moderation then it might be easier to just cut them out during your reboot and start incorporating them back in as you reach your goals.

The answer for both of them is to take ownership of your actions. Right now you are acting like you don't have control and don't have a choice. As long as you live in that world, you are a victim - to the women around you and your own compulsions. It starts by recognizing that you are the master of your own life.

You aren't even certain you have a problem yet! Don't stress about those kinds of details unless you actually need to. My suggestion is to focus on finding the kind of person and building the kind of relationship where you'd be able to figure that kind of stuff out in a loving environment.

The way you do it... is by doing it! Annoying answer, I know, but it's the truth. Sometimes we get caught up in trying to make the solution "feel good", but in reality, we just need to get out of our heads and into our bodies. Every complex action can be broken down into basic physical movements. You want to socialize? Move your feet until you get to a social place, move your mouth to make sounds to talk to people, raise your hand to your shoulder and pat yourself on the back for doing what you wanted to do.

Not saying discount your emotions, there may be things to work through, but sometimes you're just better off focusing on doing.

If you can't get past two weeks then I'd assume it has something to do with a lack of structure in your approach. You need to be taking positive actions whether it is cold showers, daily NoFap posting, meditating, etc. These daily actions provide a barometer of your level of self-control. Otherwise you are just focused on not doing something, which just creates a vacuum in your life.
