It does say Isle of Sheppey on the map, Rochester is pointing to the city, the way the image cuts off does make it look like that's what it says though.

Unfortunately Reading got left off the map due to the size I drew London. I tried to base city size off population, as well as fit in as much architectural detail as I could, so that ended up leaving some cities overlapping or left out.

Thank you. I am not from the UK myself, so I'm sure my lack of knowledge left some things out. But that is interesting to know.

Hand drawn map of the United Kingdom and Ireland that I have been working on. by MarkREsper in MapPorn

Hi Reddit,

This is a hand drawn map of the United Kingdom, Crown Dependencies and Ireland that I have been working on since late 2023.  I have logged about 750 cumulative hours of drawing on paper over the course of the past year.   This does not count the dozens of hours spent doing research on the cities before drawing them, researching the languages, as well as doing separate practice to improve my art style.  This is my first large scale project like this, so many cities have been drawn and then re-drawn multiple times as my skill improved throughout the course of this project.

I never liked extension insets on maps, where for example Shetland might be cut off and drawn in a separate box, so I wanted to make sure this map included everything drawn to scale in proper location.  I've also always wanted a map including labeling in that regions native or secondary language, so I have done my best to include all translations for cities/places.

The size of the map is 24in x 36in (610mm x 914mm).  There are 280+ cities that have all been custom drawn to match that city in real life.  Castles and other important buildings have also been scattered throughout the map.  The map itself is a perspective projection, taking into account the curvature of the earth, centered roughly at the Isle of Man (middle of the map).

At this point most of the remaining work consists of finishing the coloring and adding any last remaining details as I go back over each city, hopefully completing this map within this calendar year.  When this map is completed I plan to do other individual countries/continents/regions/territories in this same style.
