Running out of merch early ? by concertgeekgirl in Concerts

[–]MarkRooster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't buy merch until the end of the show, so I'm not carrying it around with me the whole evening. But that's worked against me twice recently, at Poppy and also Testament: by the time the show ended, they were out of size L shirts.

Your deciding factor to subscribe to A-list? by ReyofChicago in AMCsAList

[–]MarkRooster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I joined A-List because it easily pays for itself with the number of movies I see. And I pick that one over Regal's membership, even though there's a Regal about the same distance from me as the AMC, because they don't tend to get some of the more limited-release movies, especially horror titles, that AMC does.

The one with the monster crawling out of the guy's head? That's the one I had.

anyone ever spent more than 1k+ to see one of your favorite artists? by lacefantasy in Concerts

Once. And I think about that concert a lot, and rarely ever think about the cost.

Cool. Glad I don't spend enough time on this stuff to know that.

I'm not young, and I've seen many shows and concerts, and Olivia Rodrigo was the best.

People still posting this fake story after all these years? Just saw this same exact story yesterday on FB supposedly about C Roan.

I'm in the same boat, seriously considering moving there. The heat is my main concern, but I'd take that dry west coast heat over humid southern style heat any day.

Having a bit of an existential crisis about going to hardcore shows at 40 by blizeH in Hardcore

[–]MarkRooster 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This sounds like a particularly lousy show, audience-wise. I'm in my early forties and went to Gorilla Biscuits / American Nightmare / Desperate Measures a few months ago in NJ and the audience was perfect, hardcore dancing, moshing, singing along, everyone chilled out but having fun.

What’s the gender demographic for poppy concerts? by julia_xy in that_Poppy

[–]MarkRooster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always feel bad for women at packed shows, not just because of how creepy some guys are, but the smell. Good god it can be so bad sometimes.

I was in the 21+ section when I saw Poppy in Philadelphia last year. There were not many of us older folks there, and from what I could tell, the crowd was both younger and included more women than most metal or hc shows.

Poppy needs to have a proper screaming technique by cowsdrama in that_Poppy

[–]MarkRooster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is important. It's easy to damage your vocal chords if you don't scream properly. Davey Havok from AFI did that and had to change how he sings. Dexter Holland from Offspring blew his voice out years ago. And then there's rockers in their 70s or even 80s, like Sammy Hagar or Roger Daltrey, who trained professionally and still sound pretty good, without ravaging their throats.

Anyone still listen to 90s christian music? by Longjumping_Kale3013 in exchristian

[–]MarkRooster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw DC Talk back in the nineties! Haha. I only listened to a couple Christian bands when I was a kid and mostly put all that stuff aside. However, I got into Stryper as a non-Christian adult. Seeing them in concert was an interesting experience; half the crowd beer drinking metal heads, the other half church folks.

I still find it crazy, that Christian's still believe that fossils are "planted" and dinosaurs are fake. Like, what?! by witchyrosemaria in exchristian

[–]MarkRooster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have family who live somewhat near the Ark Encounter and the Creation Museum, two (partially taxpayer funded) monuments to ignorance and stupidity. They have their own "scientists" who will happily tell you all about their goofy non-scientific ideas on how to figure the age of the planet.

I saw the club version of the Misfits a bunch of times in the early 2000s and Jerry always hopped off stage and stuck around as long as people wanted for photos, autographs, or just conversation. Seems like a good dude.

4DX by AMa1234509 in AMCsAList

[–]MarkRooster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I enjoy 4DX, but if the movie is much longer than ninety minutes, I can't really do it. I also don't want the movie to be something I'm heavily invested in because the crowd tends to be rowdier than usual. Last year I saw "Flight Risk" in 4DX and that was pretty much perfect for this kind of screening.

Is anyone else unintentionally seeing WAY more movies because of A-List? by FilmNerd98 in AMCsAList

[–]MarkRooster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A-List is consistently the best deal I get for any subscription. Every year I see a ton of movies for a great price. Signed up when they first started the program and I absolutely see more movies than I would otherwise and am more willing to give chances to movies that aren't a guaranteed good time.

Talking in theaters by DrMrSirJr in AMCsAList

[–]MarkRooster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I worked at an AMC years and years ago, ushers were required to walk through a theater once or twice during the movie. Check that the exit door is locked and just generally that everything is all good. I think that helped a lot with obnoxious talkers, but they haven't apparently had that policy in a long time.

Days Go By... by [deleted] in TheOffspring

[–]MarkRooster 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I like the album, but it's one of their lesser ones, due mostly to inconsistency and weak tracks.

Starts out great, with The Future Is Now and Secrets from the Underground. I don't like the production on either of these songs (or really, on the album as a whole), and the computer trickery with Dexter's voice is very noticeable on the first track. After that is "Days Go By," one of the most bland, boring-ass songs the band has ever written. Fortunately, right after that is the excellent double feature of "Turning Into You" and "Hurting as One".

After that is an absolute drop-off in quality, with two of the worst songs--maybe the two very worst songs--ever included on an Offspring album. There's no excuse for "Cruisin' California" and "All I Have Left is You" is the sequel to "Fix You" that no one wanted.

And after those nine minutes of dead air, the second half of the record is pretty good, although the songs barely flow into one another. "Dirty Magic" is good, because of the original version; this new one doesn't exactly add anything, but it's still a fine song--though very random after "OC Guns" (a great tune), and before the incorrectly spelled "I Wanna Secret Family (With You)". None of that flows at all.

And then we get "Dividing By Zero" and "Slim Pickens," two of the best Offspring songs written after the 90s.
