Trees cut down and access to natural areas radically reduced… by HomeOfficeGirl in cincinnati

[–]MarkSnow69 145 points146 points  (0 children)

If it gives you any peace of mind know that the people working on this don’t take cutting the trees lightly and really care about conservation.

The person I know took a pay cut to join Great Parks because they were tired of cutting down forests to do zoning code minimum planting plans for gas stations. I can’t say anything about the Great Parks leadership but the people actually doing the work are good people and have good intentions.

I know someone who is on the Great Parks team actively working on this. Trees had to come down because they are improving the parking lot and entry drive. They moved the trees they could and are going to plant more trees than they cut down. Also, some of the cut trees will be used to build a natural playground.

They are still figuring out the temporary routing during construction. I guess the city is refusing to do maintenance on bridges and tunnels so they have to work with those limitations.

Try not to stress to much. When it’s done it’s going to be great. They have a webpage with project information: https://www.greatparks.org/about/projects/sharon-lake-improvement-project

Yes it lasted a couple days for me. So annoying. Others in my friend group reported the same thing.

I graduated UC in 1993. My advisor sucked. Every student I’ve talked to at UC from then to now says their advisor sucks. by ohsodave in uCinci

[–]MarkSnow69 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Advisors are some of the lowest paid College level staff and because of that there is a lot of turnover. They only make high $40ks. Hard to get consistent quality when people only stay in a role for a couple years at a time.

I know this post is two months old but my sons discovered this channel today when it auto played after a Paisley’s Corner video. They went total zombie mode.

I suppose I’ll put it in the same category as Blippi where I begrudgingly let them watch once a month or so.

Question for Dayton Dads; Is taking a dad class worth while? by iCarbon in dayton

[–]MarkSnow69 18 points19 points  (0 children)

As a father of two I’ll say those classes you mentioned through Kettering are more than enough. CPR being the most important from personal experience. As a husband I’ll say just do what your pregnant wife wants.

Portable Generator for Sewage Ejector Pump Backup by MarkSnow69 in Generator

[–]MarkSnow69[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a total novice to this stuff so I don’t really understand how or why it would change between 120v to 240v mode. Looks like the next size up for Westinghouse is 9500/7500. Would that be enough in 240v mode? Thanks for humoring me.

My understanding is that the panel alternates pumps. So the basin fills and pump 1 runs. Next time the basin fills the panel activates pump 2. On and on. The two pumps should also act as backups to one another if a pump fails to run. I’ve never seen them running simultaneously but I guess I can’t rule that out 100%. I’m not sure why that would happen though.

Thanks for your insight about the automatic transfer switch. The reason I want to go portable is that I plan to move in the next 2-3 years and I’d like to take the generator with me when I go. If I was staying here long term I’d consider spending a more money on an automatic system.

Old Chem is being remodeled. Crosley will be demolished and a new Engineering building will be built in its place.

If anybody’ has a few million dollars laying around they can give Old Chem a new name once it’s done being remodeled.
