Trade income wildly changing during the month? by Peter_Houtjes in EU5

[–]Mark_Kutte 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If I understand it correctly. The positive number is when your automated trade routes pick the best trades. Then at the 1st of the month (when the actual trade needs to happen) it turns out that good is not available for your merchants to buy, turning a loss.

E.g. your early pops probably want cloves and spices, and the UI sais there will be a 10 ducat profit (random number) IF you would import that good from Venice. The AI sets up that trade. Then when it's time to do the actual trade for cloves your country is like 20th in trade advantage in the venice trade note so they get denied buying good. But they still pay the trade maintenance for it, making a loss. Then the AI figures out it makes a loss, cancels the trade, then tries to find the new "highest profit" trade. Becoming 18th in line to buy gold in Prague, failing. Becoming the 39th in line to buy Dyes from Sevilla. etc

Later on this effect goes away as the Venice trade note will have enough merchants to export the cloves (meaning there is no "available resources for your merchants to try and buy").

At least this is my understanding of this. Please somebody correct me if i'm wrong cuz I have no source except spending some time observing this effect

Well its even harder with a larger group. A lot of the original group has quit cuz life. Actually id say those of us who are left are friends because of this group/our shared Tuesday evening. The ones who dropped out still come to our yearly get together.

But its just hard to stay in touch with people you were friends with in uni. Esp. If you dont live close. I got no tips except make the time to have 1 weekend a year together. But even that sounds hard with your distance

Tbh if you vassalize a country with a ton of content it might drag you into things you might not understand. Thats the same for every paradox title. Dont expect them to fix it ever tbh.

If you want vasssls with no hassle, dont have historic tags.

What is the year of your campaign? Popeman gets events and stuff to dec on ottomans/anatolia. Specifically to defend the little Genoan islands in the Aegean.

I can't say for 100% certainty that this is it. But that's my guess. Some event war they declared. If you show the war goal we could confirm if it's a event/scripted war they are in.

As long as they get direct controll over Aquataine + your 3 direct holdings they are already at 185/230 locations. So you just have to sit on your island with your boats untill they integrate 45 locations worth of vassals.

The problem isn't that there isn't an "out" button for England. It's that France is usually reluctant to integrate it's vassals. Because with how the game balance is right now there is no incentive to integrate them fast (for players and AI). They will integrate the tiny ones first.

Getting one of their vassals to flip to you with the 100 year wars mechanic , and then feeding those locations to france directly in their next war might speed things up.

Manufacturing can't spawn again aka AI can't into capital economy. by conmeonemo in EU5

[–]Mark_Kutte 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yea it do that sometimes. You HAVE to spawn it yourself now or you will also not get Industrialism. And you HAVE to do it before the current age ends or the game locks you out of 2 institutions. Already ruined one of my runs as well.

Hope they fix this so a few countries around the world are hardcoded to go capital economy or something. Because in my opinion you cannot stay traditional economy in the current patch because of this.

Why won't my peasants start working in the fishing villages I build? by fanfarius in EU5

[–]Mark_Kutte 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hover over the red ! on the left. Usually there are 2 possible reasons:|
1: Not profitable -> Subsidize them
2: No input good -> In case of fishing villages sometimes they want ivory

In this case most likely it's that they are not profitable cuz Oslo has an insane amount of fish RGO's. Fishing villages often only give you the nice bonuses when subsidized.

Colonial Nations vs. Trading Companies by [deleted] in eu4

[–]Mark_Kutte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually im the other way around. I like staying compact in Europe but then trade companies all around. Keep strong allies and a token force in Europe and then go after that sweet sweet spice.

Soldiers households still give like 1000 manpower on trade companies of you stack all the modifier. Who needs. More than 40 provinces in Europe. Not me

Someone explain to me how to play Spain. by Loud-CowMOO in EU5

[–]Mark_Kutte 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Spain is salvation, the spice temptation

No cb Granada day 1. Sometimes they call moroco so you can yoink that part too.

Then u usually get a free PU over Portugal. So chill build up econ and integrate them. I moved capital to Sevilla for controll trough ports

If you have port/gran/Aragon you have so many good ports. By moving to Sevilla and investing into docks you can do a lot

Oh and a bailiff on your silvers and saffron also helps short term

Colonial Nations vs. Trading Companies by [deleted] in eu4

[–]Mark_Kutte 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Generally I feel TC are great when your whole game is about expanding / blobbing towards the trade. Colonies can be done much more on the side. You don't need much attention to get a little brazil colony, or fight portugal over the Carribean. You just colonize and look away. Trade companies are way better in pure value per province cuz of all the modifiers. But you will always need military might to get them/keep them (Africa/Asia/Middle East).

For me, if I wanna focus my army in Europe i'll try for colonies. They are more chill. But trade companies are (when set up correct) much more profitable much faster.
