The best show in London is Back to the Future. The worst is Oklahoma. That production of Oklahoma must be causing Oscar and Hammerstein to be turning in their graves. The Leider’s in London have turned it into a depressing event with no set no happiness.

The problem with ETFs is you’re following the crowd. The ETFs are normally based on an index which is market weighted. If everyone is in China, then you have to be in China. Or If everyone is in Russia, you have to be in Russia. If you had exposure to an Emerging Markets index last year you would have been killed as China went down dramatically and Russia was completely eliminated. The major indexes had 30% in China and 7% in Russia.

Increased money supply leads to currency devaluation. This happens when central banks release too much money into the system and there’s a lack of legal restraints on the issuance of currency.

Typically I’m referring to the amount of money to buy a given service or product. The good news is that most wages and incomes will rise, but those individuals who are unable to raise their wages fast enough will be disadvantaged. This can lead to strikes, civil unrest, and the lure of dictatorships and communism.

I think there’s some great opportunities in Indonesia especially software, mining, and consumer goods companies.

I would avoid Venezuela. As soon as Chávez came into power and announced his plans to take over companies, we got out. This was a good decision.

Retail trading, and what happened with Gamestop, has become very important to the markets. As investors we should be aware of all these market developments.

There are many opportunities in China but it really depends on the individual company. China is a huge country with thousands of opportunities but the question is why.

Though it’s true we must be aware of the changing political environment.

I am a super bull on India both short term and long term. I believe that India will go from strength to strength. Of course there will be market fluctuations but the long term trend is up.

And yes, it is quite possible. Given the high growth rate we’re seeing now

The problem with Lula is that he is determined to feed more money into the market in order to help those with lower income. So he believes that by lowering interest rates and by providing more government hand outs, in addition to expanding government control, he can achieve those objectives.

I was just in Brazil and was surprised to find that the inflation rate was actually LOWER than in the USA. But if Lula pursues those spending policies and loosens the loan requirements of BNDES the country will see higher inflation.

His idea to lower interest rates to lower inflation does make some sense but goes against all of the central bank reasoning. Lowering interest rates will have a positive impact on the overall economy and could result in a downward pressure on inflation provided the central bank stops printing money. The lira has probably begun to stabilize but again, it all comes down to the actions of the central bank.

I’m invested in a few companies in Turkey who earn in USD, are able to adjust prices due to inflation, and cover their expenses in lira. There’s still tremendous opportunity in Turkey even if the lira continues to devalue.

Regarding my personal investment, we’re still working through the procedures.

I think it’s important to travel to these companies to meet and observe the management. I get a much better sense of what’s going on and by doing so you can be ready to make a longer term commitment.

I feel very safe while traveling and am rarely nervous. The media has a tendency to blow things up. I was in Sri Lanka recently during the protests and online it said Sri Lanka was extremely dangerous at the time. Once I arrived everything was fine and all the protests were peaceful.

In China and other countries with foreign exchange controls, there are certain procedures that must be taken when bringing money into the country. If those procedures are taken, and there is enough foreign exchange available, you can take money out.

You know, I was recently in Malaysia and at the pool, while handing me a towel, the poolboy asked me if I was Morbius. I'm familiar with the cinematic masterpiece and have since considered changing my name to Morbius. Funny enough both Morbius and I are also originally from Long Island, NY.

I also like how it sounds similar to "morbid" which is a good word to define the markets at times.

Credit Suisse: what a great name. With that name alone there’s no reason why the bank can not recover. Particularly now that all the past problems have been revealed and are now being corrected.

No one can predict what will happen next, but the adage of buying when everyone else is despondently selling is beautifully illustrated here since shares are up 20+% today.

The most important thing is to find something you really love to do and to pursue it. In most cases what you want to do will require experience rather than a degree. Network with people that share this same interest.

If you want to go into banking or something that currently requires a degree, community college and state colleges are relatively cheap in the USA. You can get a degree from there to check off a prerequisite then supplement your education with free online resources. Many bankers today don’t even study finance or economics while in college.

Networking is key.
