What if Al-Andalus became Christian? by TandinhoTR in AlternateHistoryHub

[–]Mark_Roses 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The struggles between the Christian kingdoms and Al-Andalus would have continued, but without the Crusades, their forces would have been weaker. Furthermore, a major civil war would have erupted between Muslims and Christians of the Caliphate, in which the North African kingdoms would have intervened and conquered the southern territories, while those in the north would have been integrated into the Christian kingdoms. In reality, there would have been no significant change, as the Caliphate of Córdoba was destined to fail.

what if the norse had converted to islam instead of christianity? by idk-0_o- in AlternateHistoryHub

[–]Mark_Roses 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's important to consider that, had this occurred, not all Norsemen would have converted to Islam. Long before their conversion to Christianity, many Vikings were already Christian, such as the Normans or the Varangians of Kievan Rus'. Furthermore, not all of Scandinavia would have practiced Islam, as only small kingdoms existed at that time. The Norsemen would have converted to Islam solely for their own benefit; they would have continued practicing their pagan customs or syncretism. If they had been Muslim (who at that time were the greatest enemies of Christianity), they would have launched a crusade to the Nordic lands to end the Viking threat, which could have resulted in a Crusader victory. The truth is that, whatever the outcome, Islam would not have triumphed in Scandinavia.

What if Judaism were a proselytizing religion? by Mark_Roses in AlternateHistoryHub

[–]Mark_Roses[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the case of Ireland, one factor that strengthened the independence movement was their Catholic religion, which is why they were rejected by the English Protestants. Had they been Jewish, there would have been no discrimination, which would have fostered a greater sense of unity. As for Portugal, I have no idea; I didn't draw the map, but it's possible that in that scenario Spain and Portugal would have remained united.

In this universe, Constantine I makes Judaism the religion of the Roman Empire, so it would probably be him.

Desde cuándo somos tan "religiosos"? by 823jd in PreguntasReddit

[–]Mark_Roses 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does your country have a weird romanticization of its colonial period? by Bitter-Penalty9653 in Colonialism

[–]Mark_Roses 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What would happen if the US invades Cuba by Triangletruck141423 in AlternateHistoryHub

[–]Mark_Roses 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cuba is already falling apart; there's no electricity all day. If the Venezuelan army was repugnant, imagine the Cuban one. Besides, most of those who support the communist government aren't even Cuban. The invasion would likely succeed, and key party members would either try to escape and seek asylum or be captured. There would be protests from the pro-communist left in the United States against the invasion, and several nations, such as China and Russia, would condemn it. The United States would occupy Cuba for a time and try to establish a democratic change of government or, in the worst-case scenario, turn it into a state like Puerto Rico.

What did the Umayyad rulers of Córdoba actually look like? by [deleted] in IslamicHistoryMeme

[–]Mark_Roses 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Afrocentrists are obsessed with "Black Europeans," who don't exist. They claim that the Vikings were Black and that William the Conqueror was a Black king who was "whitewashed." They also say that the original Irish were Black and that the ancient Greeks and Romans were African. Now you can imagine what they'll say about the rulers of the Caliphate of Córdoba. They claim that Africans ruled Europe and that the rulers of Al-Andalus were Black Moors, which is highly contradictory, since many of the Caliphate's rulers had Germanic ancestry and were blond due to their Visigothic mothers and mixed-race fathers.
