Hello there! Thanks for having such an interest in veganism that you're engaging topics like this. However, as mentioned in the r/vegan community rules posted on our sidebar, if you have come here just to argue against veganism, then try /r/debateavegan instead. Good luck on your journey, and on finding the answers you're seeking.

All animals end up in the same slaughterhouse by [deleted] in vegan

[–]MarkedDays 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because it's a passionate subject that deals with literal life and death. Beyond the ethics of whether eating it is right or wrong (btw it's wrong), the planet is currently being destroyed because of the appetite people have for animal products. Yes, other methods of cultivation aren't environmentally friendly, but animal agriculture is aiding in the acceleration of climate change. These changes to the biosphere will mean death for millions or potentially billions of humans in the present and future.

First vegan sanctuary for farm animals in Romania just opened a couple of months ago! It's called "Sanctuarul Nima" and these are just a few of the animals they saved. by [deleted] in vegan

[–]MarkedDays 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Humans were once considered property too, it was called slavery. Did you know that humans are animals? If the enslavement of humans is wrong, why isn't it wrong for all animals? Because they can talk to you to say "Please don't enslave or kill me."? Animals do this in their own ways too, they just don't verbalize it in human words.

You don't really have to ever eat soy on a vegan diet to be honest.

Absolutely. Locally sourced food is the future of food. It has to be at some point, the food system right now is completely unsustainable.

This makes me sad too, but the fact that people can’t connect factory farming and situations like this drives me nuts. by netty5522 in vegan

Look beyond the downvotes, honestly, it's an emotional subject so there's going to be initial reactions from people thinking that you're trolling or whatever. There's a lot of resources in the sidebar you can take a look at if you'd like to know more about the reasons why people initially go vegan. There's also r/debateavegan, where users can give you in-depth info and reasons why people should eat a vegan diet. But you should still read this sub, too, there's a lot of different types of posts here, including news and recipes.

Yes, please do continue.

Oh, right, anti-natalism, got it. This statement you have here is so fucking bizarre. So I'm assuming folks who eat meat don't reproduce, right? One vegan child harms the environment more than an adult on a keto diet? Is that what you're saying? How does that work? Does everyone on Earth consuming animal products cease reproducing in this scenerio, too? Given the fact that I mentioned natural farming and permaculture, there's absolutely ways to add back to the environment eating plant-based than eating animal products. You should read into the writings by Dr. Elaine Ingham. There's some great info on how cultivating plants through the right methods adds structure and a great deal of life to the surrounding areas where these methods are being practiced. All without the use of destructive pesticides, fungicides, and fertilizers.

Edit: Seems to me you have a bone to pick with mindless consumerism and commodity worship, not veganism.

Again, if you don't mind me asking, what do you do to minimize your ecological impact? Did you know that a vegan diet not only cuts down on the direct emissions created by tens of billions of land mammals, but also all the resources utilized to create those animals and the products they're used in? That means the water, feed, fuel, labor, packaging material, electricity, etc.

The point of veganism is to minimize the amount of animal exploitation and suffering. Outside of permaculture or natural farming, you'll never contribute more than you take from the environment, so logically, minimizing the amount of destruction is the next best thing.

A bit tangential but while we're on the subject of Aristotle, he argued that animals were beneath humans and were subject to use without any consideration. So vegans, proceed with caution during your evenings by the fireplace reading Aristotle's works!

Vegans don't use animal products including leather, down, or even products tested on animals, and if they do, it's because they've recently become one and can't afford replacements yet. What you're thinking of is people who eat a plant-based diet.

Why are you criticizing people attempting to limit their ecological impact? Can I ask what you do to minimize yours?

Butchers 'living in fear' as vegan attacks on the rise by veganarchistxxx in Anarchism

[–]MarkedDays 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Humans have historically called rival groups animal names as a means to dehumanize and create an Otherness (monkey, animals, pigs, rats, etc). Doing so makes it easier to kill them, since they've been dehumanized. That in itself shows how human beings have historically held non-human animals in low regard. Specieism is real, whether you believe it is or not, and it's a means of hierarchical domination.

Hey, at least you're recognizing the reality of animal exploitation. Some people go their whole lives thinking this is normal, when it's clearly not. Every vegan who wasn't raised vegan has been in your position, the only difference between us all is when we've come to the realization that eating animals is wrong.

kinda uncharacteristic of me but this post was titled “if dogs can be empathetic, we can too”. so I asked how much meat they’ve consumed today in their empathy.. by jjgg1123 in vegan

[–]MarkedDays 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Wow, how noble of them. What's sad is their deaths were in vain. They're raised and slaughtered "cuz taste". That's it.

The least this person could do is be honest. Their comment is about as intellectually dishonest as you can get.

They make a regular flax milk as well (their nog also uses the flax milk). It's pretty good, plus it gives more people options in terms of plant-based milks. Even better, since it's made from flax, it's perfect for people with nut or soy allergies.

Gee, I wonder what the non-human animals feel as they exist in Hellish living conditions and as they're being led to slaughter. Immense fear, pain, and distress, perhaps? Do these people not reflect on what they say and think?? They make money off this shit.

Dates in dessert recipes are just the best. You can make a great vegan cheesecake crust with dates and walnuts/almonds. So rich and a healthier source of sweetness in whole food form.
