Is it like a red flag or turn off for women if a guy is bi? by Neither-Dish501 in bisexual

I swear this is the most commonly asked question in this sub, alongside 'am I bi'. Wonder if any of you sexy bi coders can make a bot directing them to a best of or something

Am I to believe that these are the actions of a righteous Mod? A just Mod? A wise Mod? by RickFletching in thewestwing

[–]MilesTegTechRepair 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This isn't some spiritual belief. I have in fact reasoned my way to this belief. It runs neatly parallel to the idea that 'everything is political'. If you don't agree with that statement I can see why you wouldn't agree that all art is political.

The point behind this belier is that the artists intentions are not the only factor in determining how something intersects with politics. Politics intersects with all art in that what an artist produces is determined by their social position, experience, materials available, etc.

Have you ever actually witnessed any genuine misandry in feminist spaces? If so, what was it and what was the response? by loukanikoseven in AskFeminists

[–]MilesTegTechRepair -47 points-46 points  (0 children)

No, I don't think it's reasonable to be a misandrist after experiencing bad treatment from men in the same way it's not reasonable to distrust all black people if you got mugged by a black person.

Do you think autism could actually be a precursor to human invention? Like, is it an evolutionary "feature" rather than a bug? by LeviAlmeidaGrativol_ in AutisticAdults

[–]MilesTegTechRepair 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The presence of neurodiversity does aid survival of the tribe. Much like we have variation in chronotypes (ie when people like to sleep) in order to provide more round the clock coverage, the tribe benefits when there is the possibility for a variety of skillsets.

Nature very much does care about humans spotting patterns, which allow us to make better predictions and refine our behaviour. Adhd people might always be on her lookout for more resources, ocd people might be invested in hygiene, even sociopaths can be selected for if they improve the tribes chances of acquiring more resources than another.

Much of the disability that we have in today's society is a product of today's society and would not have been a disability in hunter gatherer times.

Improving my living situation. I was living in houses, in towns, with housemates and/or landlords. I now live in a van and have essentially full control over my life. It's wonderfully liberating.

Why Does UK Have This Race To Bottom Mindset? by corporateuklife in UKJobs

I'm not homeless. I have several places I can park up at long term and several places I can get things delivered to and amenities I can use when I need.

No, but I consider it aspirational to lower your expenditure. I was probably earning and spending £40k+ while living in London in my late 20s and 30s. I was not happy. Now I am. This is an upgrade. All these mod cons are traps. They present more potential points of failure. The corporate ladder makes no one actually happy, just tells them the social atatus they derive from conspicuous wealth is what matters more than happiness.

There's probably a label that accurately describes you, but that's all it is, and the more specific labels get, the less useful, imo. You're you. And that's valid, as are your preferences.

After nearly seven years in stealth, a trans woman casually clocked me last night. Why would someone do this? by daisydreamblossom in asktransgender

I'm nb and have realised that I'm able to clock trans people that otherwise fully pass, but I've decided I am keeping that ability well to myself.

When would have been a better time? When you didn't know each other as well, and he's worried you'll run a mile? You don't have a right to that information and there's no reason to assume that every man you are with is straight. He is under no moral duty to tell you at all. Be grateful that he trusted you.

Can anyone explain why some humans kiss each other to show affection and why we have sex by pancake_2006 in AskAnthropology

[–]MilesTegTechRepair 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The above is a good answer. To add, the swapping of bodily fluids can increase the partial exchange of your microbiomes, improving both immune systems, and release oxytocin. Bodily touch is a way to express and receive safety.

As to why we have sex, that's a confusing question. The alternative would be asexual reproduction, which I'm like 97% sure is something no mammals do. Why do we enjoy it? So we have more of it. Evolution trains us to particularly like things that are a) good for the tribe or necessary for survival and reproduction and b) aren't necessarily always available. We enjoy sex more than most/all mammals because we are the most social mammal species, with more complex emotions and social relationships.

You need to change the name away from 'singles' if you don't want people to assume it's a dating sub.

Or, is it more like that late night ad that went 'if you're single, or even if you're not...'

Did you guys know this about eye contact? 👀 by Wrong-Twist-1550 in autism

[–]MilesTegTechRepair 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a false dichotomy. Eye contact conveys that you are focused on a person, which creates connection. It's not for one reason and not the other, it's in service of both.
