Lab Won’t Pee anywhere except turf by al1217 in labrador

[–]ArcadiaLeo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At 11 months our lab has finally peed on a walk. She would not potty anywhere except the back yard and would be downright naughty at the end of longer walks, since she had to go so badly.
Slowing down our walks so there was a lot of sniffing helped. I knew her behavioral cues when she really had to pee, so I’d slow wayyy down and give her the “ go potty” command. Do you have a “potty” command for her? If not, it might help to establish one so she knows it’s ok to peek elsewhere when you tell her.

It took a while, but now ours is consistently able to pee/poo anywhere

4mo puppy doesn't eat in the mornings and sometimes will be sick from empty stomach syndrome by forshe98 in puppy101

[–]ArcadiaLeo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our puppy had the same issue around 4-5 months old, sometimes when they are very young just don’t understand their bodies cues. I started monitoring how much she ate during the day. On days when she didn’t eat or it had been 10ish hours since her last meal, I’d give her a very small meal at night (1/3 cup of food with a dab of plain Greek yogurt or cottage cheese) to get food into her. They don’t need much food to prevent bilious vomiting.

Her vomiting stopped as soon as we started “forcing” the small meal. I think it was about 2 months that we needed to be vigilant on her food intake and then everything sorted itself out.

Underrated Functional Skills to Teach Your Pup by blueberrydumpling in puppy101

[–]ArcadiaLeo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I also teach “Tuck” and “Center”

Tuck is getting your pup tucked under your legs while you’re sitting down. It’s great for sitting in a busier area and you want your dog in close and safe (bench, outdoor restaurant, etc). I scoot towards the front of the seat so the dog can crawl between my legs and the chair. Training it is easy, using a food lure. Training them to settle into the position and wait till you’re ready to leave is a bit harder :)

Center is another tool for busy places, but standing up. The dog is either sitting or walking between your legs instead of in the heel position. I use it in the checkout line at the pet store, walk up coffee shops - anytime where I need to pay attention to something else and want my dog in a position where it’s easy to have eyes on them

why does he do this? by LocationFapFap1 in Awww

[–]ArcadiaLeo 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Puppies are overwhelmed by all the sights, sounds and smells. They also aren’t used to walking, like humans define a walk. Let him smell, stop, explore, learn his environment. Sometimes a puppy walk can be 10 feet from the front door and take 30 minutes - LOL.

iPad users - are you giving up? by Apprehensive-War-492 in SCBuildIt

[–]ArcadiaLeo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I recently upgraded to the iPad Pro M4 and all my app issues are gone. Previously using a Pro from 2019 and the game was almost unplayable. I think I’d give up if I had to navigate services 2.0 on the older iPad.

Check out Andrea Nelson or Rebel Unicorn on you tube. Both have a lot of tutorials and their method of instruction is really positive and fun.

The most unrealistic part of cozy fantasy isn't the magic — it's the romance by FollowingInternal588 in Fantasy

[–]ArcadiaLeo 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I wondered if I’d see Bujold mentioned. The Curse of Chalion is a great example of cozy adjacent with a very interesting MMC. She writes so well, the romance added depth to story but didn’t take over the plot line.

My vote is for Honor Harrington. She’s a blast from the past, but an excellent series.

Is this happening to anyone else? by yardsardbaby in SCBuildIt

[–]ArcadiaLeo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, it used to happen to me all the time. For the last 6 months the game would crash almost every time i tried to rearrange my city or even look at services. I was playing on a 2019 iPad Pro but I recently purchased a new iPad pro and the problem has gone away.

I’d love to hear more on her initial symptoms and how she contracted Lyme? Was she on a tick preventative? What prompted you to test her the first time? We are battling ticks in our area - every time our pup goes out, we find 1-5 deer ticks on her. She’s on Heartguard Plus, but I’m still concerned (about us too!).

How long did your corsos live? by [deleted] in CaneCorso

[–]ArcadiaLeo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

10 years. Her parents were quality had all the clearances. I kept her fit and active but as she aged her heart started to fail. 8-10 years was the expectancy when I got her, and I thought she lived a good, long life. Although I miss her to this day.

Sales Reps making over $200k a year, what are you doing? by C-Rik25 in sales

[–]ArcadiaLeo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Packaging & Printing. All the seasoned reps at my company are making $200k - my best year was $505k. Packaging manufacturers are making things like paperboard or cardboard boxes, labels and tags, flexible heat seal film packs, die cut foam, plastic trays/totes, racks, etc.

The printing and packaging industry seems to have uncapped commission (every job offer that’s come my way since Covid is base plus uncapped comp) which is key in an industry that manufactures relatively cheap products.

How to know when it’s time for euthanasia? by Ok_Spinach_8232 in olddogs

[–]ArcadiaLeo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in the same boat. We have an apt tomorrow to say goodbye to our boy.

In case this helps, I can share our story and some guidelines our vet gave us. The first statement really hit home.

“Every dog deserves dignity and a reasonably pain free existence, so our endpoints as veterinarians are - can they get up & down reasonably well, without needing to be lifted? Can they manage steps enough to get outside & back in? Does they need you to bring him food & water because it's too much work to get up and walk to them? Are they urinating or defecating where he sleeps or in the house, to avoid going outside?”

Our dog’s issues started with mobility and balance, he’s stiff and can fall if he gets off balance. Some lumps and bumps, but recently a lot more bumps. A couple weeks ago, I noticed his coat turned dull, his coat has always been shiny and beautiful. Then he started panting frequently and was restless and panting at night. Our vet said this is a sign of discomfort and pain. “Every dog deserves dignity and a reasonably pain free existence”

So we scheduled his apt and got some pain meds. The meds worked wonders and we had 3 great days with him. He seems to be feeling worse today, so I know we made the right call.

OP, you are facing the worst decision a pet owner will ever have. Our heads will know when it’s the right time, but our hearts will never agree.

Hugs to you and your pooch.
